Lathe - Rock steady-- Steady rest & Coolant hose better suited to a vacuum. 4/24/2018

I bought this lathe about two years and have nothing but praise for it. It has plenty of power for cutting and boring. Threading barrels is very easy and the results are as good as the operator. The DRO is a real plus but the instructions for the DRO are -- technical-- The lathe manual for the lathe is first rate. There is also a good collection of literature that is helpful for working on barrels, and more for general lathe, milling and machine work that I have also discovered at Grizzly.... I would give five stars if I had not run into a couple of things that just are not up to the same standard as the lathe itself. These items appear to be manufactured by a different company as the quality is just not as good as the lathe. Specifically, the steady rest is not machined well and the metal not the same as the lathe.the surfaces are not as "clean." The tapped holes to lock the steady rest roller arms stripped with the first touch of the wrench. The coolant hose is covered with a nice nickle finished housing, too bad the coupling for the housing and fittings is a poorly chosen plastic piece that barely survived the first month I could not find that piece or even a suitable replacement anywhere, not even in the very complete parts list in the manual. And the last thing is a time issue as much as anything, since. we all know that setups are the thing that kills profit in many contracts. I am complaining about the amount of time is takes to switch gears for thread pitches and feed rates. Changing gears is messy and time consuming On the bright side, I have reduced the number of setups for any particular thing we manufacture. Another plus side item, I find myself using this lathe to make prototypes and small things rather than firing up the 15 hp CNC that is supposed to meet our vast array of challenging projects. Properly setup and running this is a great lathe for one to a few items at a time. This is the most used Lathe in our shop. I changed my mind, This is an excellent lathe. The two parts mentioned before might be better suited to a vacuum. They suck..

GO 776 lathe w/ DRO 3/1/2018

I have used this lathe for a year or so, it is a very good product for its price. The tail stock chuck is not as good as more expensive one but you an upgrade. I am still learn, I am not a trained machinist. You should understand that the lathe is just the tip of the ice burg, you will need many tools to make items, i.e.; collet chuck, cutting tools, collets, etc.

Grizzle's technical support was very good and that is why I purchased the lathe from Grizzle.

Great Lathe & Perfect size. 10/28/2017

I bought this lathe because the price was right and I knew a friend that had one and was very satisfied. I've had it over a year now and it's been great, I've had no problems with it at all and the accuracy of it is dead on.

it's early yet , only a few hours on it but it still has some gear noise , manual is good but has some room for improvement [ read it twice before starting ] overall good machine for the price and features you can't beat it

Awesome Machine 1/26/2017

After leveling (no small feat) and running the break in procedure. Checked runnout on chuck (almost zero) and tailstock alignment, really happy with the unit. one grip, the coolant flexible nozzle leaks like a sieve, replaced it with a flexible plastic piece.

Purchased Dec 15, 2016 The lathe was delivered 4 days after ordering. I was very happy with quality of crating. After getting lathe fastened to floor and leveled, ran the breakin, changed oil in gearbox. The lathe runs quiet and run out so far is very good. The manual for the DRO is not very good but a couple searches on internet answered my questions. overall very pleased with lathe.

Good Lathe for the price! 11/17/2016

This lathe is pretty good for the price, very accurate with the DRO. I had some trouble with the coolant pump and the terminal block on the drive motor, both resolved fairly quickly by Grizzly. The only minor complaints I have are the hand dials, they're not very accurate (I checked them against the DRO and a dial indicator) and would be a problem if the DRO stopped working, and it's just a little noisier than I would like. I did run the break-in procedure, and it may quiet down a little more with time, it's not that bad, and maybe Grizzly could make a more accurate set of dials available.

DRO only displays metric measurements. 6/25/2016

Bought this lathe less than a month ago. Pleased with the lathe , but it does not seem to display inches with the DRO (only metric) readout. That would have been important to know before buying as I would not have purchased the lathe including the DRO. Because of that I only gave it 3 stars. If someone can tell me how to display inches instead of metric I will give it 5 stars.
