This full-featured 14" x 40" High-Precision Toolroom Lathe is equipped with just about everything needed to get a machine shop up and running—just add your own tooling! Hardened and precision-ground oil-bath lubricated gears and high quality spindle bearings are built to withstand heavy turning, yet hold tight tolerances for precision work. Cuts a wide range inch/metric threads and modular/diametral pitches. Features a hardened and precision-ground Meehanite-casting bedway, completely enclosed universal gearbox, complete coolant system, carriage feed stop, micrometer stop, 4-way toolpost, pull-out chip tray, safety foot brake, and one-shot way lubrication. The lathe arrived quickly and in good condition. \r\nWhy I bought this particular lathe:\r\n \r\nThis lathe has the following features that make it a really attractive product. Although the South Bend Heavy 13 lathe does; no other Grizzly lathe of this size or smaller has those features. \r\nIt has a pull-out chip tray\r\nIt has a chuck with replaceable jaws\r\nIt has T-slots in the carriage for mounting other accessories\r\nIt has a brake\r\nIt has a direction-reversing gear change push/pull-knob on the apron for changing while the apron is traversing at low speed\r\nIt includes a worklight (although I wish it had an LED bulb that doesnâ€™t get so hot)\r\nIt includes a micrometer stop\r\nIt includes a stop collar\r\nIt includes a coolant system\r\n \r\nThings not included that I wish it had:\r\nOption to buy with single-phase motor (even if only single speed) I had to buy a phase-converter to make it function on my single-phase power supplies. \r\nLive center. (it comes with 2 dead centers, but no live center)\r\nQuick Change Toolpost (The 4-way toolpost is extremely inconvenient for non-production work)\r\n \r\nIf anyone asks again, this size and weight lathe shipment can easily be delivered to residential areas on the UPS bobtail with a lift gate. I almost didnâ€™t buy because of the initial CSR report that it couldnâ€™t be delivered on a lift-gate. But I visited UPS and they said that it could. No problems. But, UPS will not deliver to a rear entry if they have to go down an alley. (or at least thatâ€™s the local policy). \r\nA 2-ton Shop Crane will easily lift the lathe off the shipping pallet and can be moved by 2 people into position on a concrete floor despite the heavy weight. \r\nShipping was super quick. It missed the truck in Kansas City, but still made it to my home in 3 days. I was expecting maybe 10 days. \r\n \r\nEverything isnâ€™t totally rosy, though:\r\nThe included toolkit has a set of Allen wrenches that are apparently not hardened. They wouldnâ€™t even back out any fasteners, including the power ground screw. All that were tried rounded off the tool hex and/or twisted the wrench. This was simply loosening, not tightening. The included Allen set is really quite worthless. \r\n \r\nThe brake switch was physically broken; discovered while following the installation instructions and setting up the lathe. I need a new switch, please. Part number: P07401037\r\n \r\nA gear-head gear retaining washer and its fastener had fallen off the shaft and were lying at the bottom of the gear-head case in the oil. I discovered it when the lathe would not switch from High Speed gears to Low Speed gears. Finally I took the top off and peered down into the works and saw the washer on the bottom of the case. Later, found the allen bolt that attaches the washer to the shaft. I had to pull the gear shifting mechanism out of the head in order to fish the loose parts out and then install properly (this time with a lock washer). I think I did that OK, but it took over an hour. \r\n\r\nGrizzly's great Customer Service is replacing the parts, etc. quickly. \r\n \r\n\r\n
