I purchased this machine used in good shape and have been working it hard nearly every day for 8 years. It is 11 years old and other than a couple of very miner issues, it has served me extremely well the entire time.
I often thought of getting a more expensive machine but couldn't find fault with anything that this machine has to offer.
I sand lots of very hard exotic woods and some softer woods too along with fiberglass and it takes it all in stride.
You can't go wrong with this purchase.
I've owned this 18" wide belt sander since 2005 and I've been very pleased with it's performance. It's saved me a lot of hand sanding time and mess over all those years and I've had virtually no issues with this machine. I was told years ago that you get better performance with the platen type sanders vrs. the single drum types. I was told you will get chatter on the finish with single drum machines, but to be honest I've only seen chatter when trying to run completed cabinet face frames through, which you don't typically do anyways on an 18 " machine. I use this machine far more than my thickness planer because I can rely on getting a flat smooth finish without any chip out or snipe. Love this machine !
