G1023S Recommended by Wood Magazine

You won't find a more solid performer than the Grizzly G1023S for under $1,000. You'll never get bogged down cutting with this 3-hp animal, but you will need to have a shop wired for 220 volts to use it.

Grizzly's G1023S. Best New Tool Award

Grizzly sneaked this tool into its 2000 catalog before we heard about it, and all we could say was "wow!" The G1023S is a variation on an existing Grizzly cabinet saw, but the addition of a Biesemeyer clone fence system made us jump to test it. The 3hp (18 amp), 220 volt saw, priced at $755 (plus shipping), surpassed our expectations. Sporting two solid cast iron wings, a better than average miter gauge with adjustable T-bar and both a standard and dado blade insert, we couldn't wait to plug it in. Assembly went very well with only slight adjustments to bring it into spec. Grizzly deserves high marks for the fit, finish and performance of the saw. A 2hp model (G1023S-110) that will run on 110 power is also available for about the same price. Both saws are a really great value, so anyone considering a contractor saw can now step up to a cabinet saw for about the same price. With the increased performance, a quality rip fence, a solid cabinet-mounted trunnion support for the blade and the low price, this saw is truly a Best New Tool for 2000.

Editor's Choice October 2002

"This 2-hp cabinet saw stands head and shoulders above the crowd of saws tested. The big difference isn't power, but the mechanism under the table. Like all cabinet saws, this machine is built like a tank. That means less vibration is passed on from the motor and blade to the tabletop. It's also easier to align the blade and miter slot on a cabinet-style saw than on any contractor's saw. You get two massive cast-iron wings, an enclosed base to trap dust, a magnetic switch with an easy-to-reach "off" button and the same large fence as on the G1022 Pro Z. This saw has more features we like than any other model (see chart, page 50), plus a cast-iron miter gauge with a bar that can be fine-tuned to fit the miter slot. A robust machine at a great price."
