This direct mount 4-jaw chuck features jaws that move independently. Each chuck comes with studs in the back and hardened reversible jaws. The body is made of semi-steel. D1-6 is a type of spindle found on certain metal lathes. It is a cam-lock style mount that requires the chucks to have appropriate sized cam-lock studs. These studs fit into the cam-lock holes in the spindle and lock into place very precisely. Cam-lock mounts are known for being accurate. Through hole: 2.953"

Direct mount gives me extra room 5/24/2017

Bought this a few weeks ago and it's everything it should be and nothing more or less. The direct mount means I don't have a backplate taking up valuable real estate and since it's a four jaw I can dial it in perfectly without needing an adjustable backplate. I don't think I'd go this route if it were available in a three jaw. Once I took it apart and oiled it up and wiped it down and oiled it up again it worked flawlessly. Worked fine right out of the box but I wanted to make sure there wasn't any grinding dust in it. The chuck key is pretty nice and fit my other chucks too so now I have two keys. I stamped the jaws myself just so they always go back into the same slots if I ever take it apart again. I can't remember if the jaws are reversible, I haven't needed them to be at least. I would suggest this chuck to anyone looking for a less expensive alternative that will save them a little room to. Or if you don't wanna buy one you can make your own, just get an old bottle jack and give it a few licks on the bench grinder! Lol
