    Everything I expected! 10/27/2018

So far I am more than impressed with this lathe, after reading all the reviews I took the proactive approach during assembly, as I unpacked and checked all the parts I cleaned, degreased and waxed all the parts, I couldnt find metric locking nuts for the headstock and tailstock base plates but a little blue thread locker seems to have solved the nuts vibrating loose problem others noted as an issue, I also used thread locker on every assembly step as needed, once fully assembled I set her on solid rubber isolation pads, only had her a month now but have turned out a dozen larger bowls from rough cut Timber and have had no issues or problems at all, the only thing missing in my opinion is reverse...

    Just what I expected! 10/25/2018

Tail stick bolt that holds Morris taper threads stripped out of tailstock. Otherwise all is fine

I am very happy with the lathe so far. The only thing I can say that needs improving is the head stock clampdown doesn't always stay tight. Vibrations sometimes loosens it.
Otherwize, I am very pleased with all the other feachers.

    Very good tool 5/10/2018

Very good lathe for the money. Was packed carefully and assembled easily. Some of the lockdown vibrate loose. Lock nuts would help

There are so many things I really like about this lathe. For 16 years I used a craftsman wood lathe and really enjoyed it. However, just like me it wore out. So I never had an occasion to use any of your products, but I can only say thank you for not only the equipment t but your service. Form the very first phone call to the end result of judging the product I am so pleased. I wished I could remember the lady's name that I talked with on the phone but she was so kind and helpful in placing my order and assuring that it would be delivered within. The time period she said it would be. As for the lathe, WOW. It has been 16 years since I have really enjoyed wood turning like I do now. Im sure you have many more great products to choose from as I see in your catalog, so Grizzly here we go. Weve got a lot of work to do together. THANK YOU.

    Good lathe overall. 4/30/2018

I've turned about 60 projects on my G0462 since receiving it. Delivery packaging was solid, arrived with no issues. It does the job well. A little noisy at lower RPMs, but gets quieter when you step up the speed. The base is solid cast iron which is an upgrade over lower end lathes. That additional weight does help. It does bounce on you with larger (even slightly) unbalanced blanks. The only knock on this is the lack of lower end speeds. You really have to get your blanks balanced very well before turning or you'll be fighting the equipment through the first half of your project. Would I recommend this lathe? Yep, no hesitation. I can't afford a Cadillac of a lathe, so this more than does the job. You can turn beautiful projects on this lathe.

    Awesome machine 4/23/2018

I had bought a second hand grizzly wood lathe and had to retire it, due to not being able to order parts (discontinued). After much research this is the one that I picked knowing I will not have to buy another. The only flaw I see with this model is the location of the pivot lock on the motor I have pinched my finger between the base and motor a few times (it don't tickle), but all in all a great machine. I don't get on it as much as I would like to, but when I do it is hours before I call it a day. I have turned mini ball bats, bowls and candlesticks. I'm not tech savvy enough to upload pictures yet.

It is ok with a few problems 4/21/2018

The locking screw handle for the tool rest stripped out. I replaced it with a 10mm socket head cap screw.
Also the tool rest does not go low enough for my carbide detail tool. At its lowest point my tool is still
1/8" above the the center of my work piece.
That being said it is good for the price. A few small changes would make it a lot better.

Been waiting on this unit for a long time, which I got it sooner.
Very good machine, and I plane on have a lot of fun with it.

    So much fun! 4/16/2018

Bought this after having to turn down several orders for larger bowls and platters. I went from a 10x18 to this beast so it took a while to get used too but it is a great piece of equipment for the price. The only issue so far is the ball oiler popped out of the spring but after contacting Customer Service (which is AMAZING) they are working on trying to find a solution to the problem since I guess I am a first at something.....FINALLY! Super happy with it and again the Customer Service is AMAZING.

    Great price 4/14/2018

This lathe does NOT come with a handwheel. Also the thread pattern to mount one is very unusual. An email to Grizzly and two phone calls could not help me. They cannot even get a bolt from the manufacturer. Grizzly did give me the thread pattern and it looks like I can get a high priced one from India. The lathe itself is awesome

Ehh, Its OK I guess. 4/7/2018

I've had this lathe since May of 2013, and during all this time I have had to replace the drive belt over 20 times. I got one belt from Grizzly and took it to NAPA to get matches. Overall, I'm not entirely satisfied with this lathe. I wish I had saved up and bought a Nova. This lathe has an advertised minimum speed of 600 rpm (too high for safely roughing out anything), but mine has NEVER operated below 1000 rpm! Technical Service is a joke. All they have is a book of basic questions and answers and no real technical expertise. So, for the most part, my lathe is primarily a dust magnet and takes up valuable space in my shop. The saddest part of all this is that I really love making things on a lathe. Nonetheless, I've bought my last tool from Grizzly. Much like Harbor Freight, Grizzly products really are not worth the money. As I am able, I am weeding out my Grizzly tools (and I've got a lot of them) and replacing them with higher quality products from Laguna, Nova, and Saw Stop.

I like the lathe and it works well except the tail stock is not made right. If you look at all the other lathe tail stocks there should be kore base at the back and less at the front where it is in the way wen working with short parts.

awesome, no issues at all 3/9/2018

    Larry C

The cast iron casting of the leading edge of the right leg was very poor. I was able to file the sharp edge down to the point it would not cut me when using. I have purchased several pieces of equipment and it should have been caught by a quality control person.

    Excellent lathe 2/28/2018

Well it was a bumpy ride to finally receive my lathe in one piece. The first one I received on a UPS truck was in pieces, But the second delivery two weeks later was in great shape.

    G0462 lathe 2/17/2018

Haven't used it too much yet but it appears to be everything that I thought it would be and at a reasonable price.

    Very Happy! 2/11/2018

I bought this lathe about a month ago and put a duplicator on it. I've turned 400 legs with it so far and it does not lack in power. It's heavy and does everything I need, shipping was fast. The tool rest that came with mine looks a little beat up right where your tools run, bad casting, that's my only complaint.

    Lathe is awesome 2/10/2018

I recently purchased this lathe and it is awesome, easy to use, very well built and sturdy, love the ability to change speeds so easily.

Great lathe for the money! 2/8/2018

I have had this lathe for about a year and it has performed beautifully. Not a single issue as of yet.

Great Lathe for the Price 2/5/2018

First off, the customer service is outstanding. As for the lathe, you can't find a much better deal for a lathe with a 16-inch swing. Very sturdily built, and the only issue I have is that the low speed setting is a little too fast for roughing larger out-of-round pieces. It is a great lathe, well worth the price.

very pleased with purchase arrived in great shape and had up and running in no time.

    Excellent product! 1/27/2018

Really like the quality of it. Have not used yet but i will

    Awesome 1/19/2018

My lathe is awesome. Can't wait to fill my shop with all green.

I've only hade this machine a couple of weeks but seams to be a good one low vibration plenty of power I'm satisfied, I got a quality built machine for the cost.

Heavy duty--does what is supposed to do! 1/13/2018

Always trust Grizzly. Good quality products shipped in a timely manner. Great basic lathe for the price.

Very pleased with our purchase, have had many hours of use and no problems with anything

    Great product 1/10/2018

I bought this lathe a few weeks ago and I am extremely pleased with it. The head stock and tail stock are aligned perfectly and the 2 HP motor has great power. I also have a Grizzly band saw and I love it. I highly recommend Grizzly products.

    Tim H

Havent set it up yet. Waiting for building to be finished. Brother in law has one and loves it. Im sure it will be the same for me.

    love the lathe 12/16/2017

    Richard S

The shipping was great , lots of trouble with the banjo , " didn't tighten down keeps stripping out. The head stock threads are way to long for my nova chuck , have to buy a new chuck, if I know about the chuck wouldn't have bought this lathe.

Good Lathe, Tool Rest needs improvement. 11/28/2017

I bought this lathe recently and am very pleased with the performance and overall manufacture. The one drawback, the tool rest post is 25mm and the rest itself is just too large for smaller projects, they need to redesign the banjo post size to 1 inch. I do not like drilling out the banjo so went to another brand for the tool rests with a 25mm post. The in store staff suggested buying another tool rest from them and cutting it off, not a good recommendation. I would recommend this lathe, no question.

    Wood Lathe 11/11/2017

Lathe came boxed very well nothing was damaged or even scratched runs smoothly and is quiet I wished tool rest was 1" not 25mms I drilled mine out so I had more options. Otherwise a great wood lathe

Great machine in this price range! 11/8/2017

Firstoff as a recently retired 42 year veteran Tool Maker and Mfg Engineer in the metal working business, Im a hard man to please. Ive designed, proto-typed, machined metal parts and even built entire machines of many types, including aircraft, machine tool, firearm and the medical industries. I am also an avid researcher. While looking at the reviews on this machine, everywhere I could look, I saw very mixed reviews. Of course I took the time and analyzed the best and worst. A lot of the 'bad' reviews I came across, well, were ridiculous. You cannot run the Indy 500 in a Chevette .................. nor will you turn a 20" bowl with this machine without issues. You get the drift.

I looked at several companies and lathes before pulling the trigger on this one. First, the size, swing and length fit what I wanted one for. I did not buy it to turn 20" bowls nor did I expect it to turn telephone pole size work pieces.
What I HAVE been doing successfully is turning (so far) up to 10" or so bowls, table legs, and other smaller spindle type pcs with no problem.
Do I wish it had a slower speed for roughing?? Of course. But Ive had no problems. With the spindle/pulley design, which is better than changing belts/pulleys for different speeds, I suspect very much lower RPM would lose torque pretty quickly.
Have I had any problems? Yes. Ive had some minor issues that Vince and the Support team have quickly taken care of and I'll say one thing, these folks have World Class Customer Support and I thank them.
One last comment. I would challenge anyone to find a better value, in this price range, for a lathe.
Dont buy it expecting it to do way over its capacity and what it was designed for and I think you will be pleased.

Update: Ive had mine for about 1 1/2 years. Ive got used to the noise. Lol.

I will still say have a few extra tool rest Handles in stock as they wear out fast. And no, Im not overrightening.

I maintain what I said. Pretty good machine for the cheap price.

I haven't had my lathe very long but I can say so far I am very happy with it. The lathe arrived and was delivered in my garage. The delivery man asked me where I wanted it and he put it there. The lathe was very well packed and arrived in excellent condition. Like i've said I have not used it much yet but so far I am impressed.

    Excellent 10/9/2017

Love my lathe. All comments are positive with the exception of rpm. 580 - 600 rpm is maximum slow speeed for my lathe. For safety, rough turning sometimes require 300-500 rpm

    Great lathe 9/29/2017

I replaced my ridgid lathe with this product and have been very pleased with it. My only issue is with the cam bolts used for the rest. I stripped it out on my first project. Lots of power with low vibration.

    Amazing Product 8/25/2017

Is this a top of the line lathe? No. Can you find something much better? Yes. But here's the kicker. This lathe is absolutely, hands down, the markets best for the price. Sure, you can go by a top brand, high quality lathe but expect to empty your bank account for it. Keep in mind, this isn't some cheap toy. It is a superior piece of workmanship, complete with stand, digital readout and all the bells and whistles you'd expect from an expensive model. Top it all off with a powerful 2 HP motor and you are all set. I've been turning pieces 14" and larger since I bought it and I've had no issues. I spent a lot of time shopping for the best value and this is it. If you think you can beat it, good luck!

    Nice blend of features 8/25/2017

Getting used to it, I have had an issue with losing speed and stopping the spindle, but it is not the motor. I have spoken with a tech and they suggested oiling the pulleys, which is really the only maintenance suggested in manual on a regular basis. No cause for alarm yet.

    Lathe 8/24/2017

I have my Lathe. But haven't put it together yet. I want to finish my new wood shop. First.

After having to wait 3 weeks for back order, the lathe is every thing I thought it would be,everything there and everything worked.Great lathe,Thanks

    ok at best 7/16/2017

I have a problem with the part that holds the tool rest. I think its called the banjo? It seems like every time I move it to a new position I have to reach under and tighten the nut that holds it so that the cam lock will engage properly. It would also be helpful to have a handle on the left side of the spindle to hold onto when changing the chuck out. An indexing spindle lock would be nice. And I can see the need for the tool remover rod to break the taper lock on the headstock side of the lathe but it would be nice to have the tailstock taper release when the hand wheel is backed out all the way. Last but not least 500+ rpm as the slowest speed is sometimes too fast for some out of balance work for a beginner like me.

This is a sturdy, well balanced machine. The rotating headstock is ideal for out-board turning.

Tool rest adjustment handle assembly 7/8/2017

I've had the G0462 Wood Lathe for about 5 months. After using the lathe 4-5 times a week during this period, the Model: P0584057 handle assembly for adjusting the position of the tool rest failed. The hex connection between the threaded bolt and the spring-mounted adjustable handle has stripped. It appears to me that the recess on the inside of the handle is not deep enough to allow enough of a bearing surface between the two parts, the handle and the threaded bolt, which has resulted in the corners of the hex on the bolt to round-over. I'm not sure whether this is an engineering or manufacturing flaw, though I tend to think that it is a combination of both; the receiver on the handle is too shallow, and the metal of the hex bolt is too soft. I'm curious if this is a common problem with this tool and, if so, should I order enough replacement handles to have a supply on hand, or manufacture my own t-handles to replace the original equipment? Other than this handle problem, the lathe has served me well for the few months that I've owned it. Thanks for your assistance with this.

    Good starter/hobby lathe 7/8/2017

This is a good lathe if you are starting out or do smaller turnings. It has some great features for the money. The mechanical variable speed comes in handy.
A few overwhelming cons need to be addressed. Of course the lowest speed is 600 rpm. I knew that going in but it severely lowers the size of blank you can put on it and be safe. No handwheel but I can live with that. The tailstock design just sucks. The bottom can make it very difficult to get the banjo lined up the way I like.
Still for the money it is a nice starter lathe, just recognize what it can and can't do. And watch those bigger blanks, it can make for a potential accident.

    Great Product 7/5/2017

    Good starter lathe, but... 6/19/2017

The lathe works well enough, but after a while, some of the shortcomings show themselves. For example, the slowest turning speed is about 700 RPM. If all you are turning are relatively light, well-balanced pieces, you're fine. Otherwise, be very, very careful. Another example, there is no lock for the drive which can make hand sanding and other operations awkward. The lack of available accessories is an issue if you plan to do much bowl turning. The lathe comes with a decent enough rest, but if you plan to do much bowl turning, you'll find the rest limiting. If you plan to but a rest from another lathe, be careful. With the Grizzly's 25 mm tool rest post, no standard 1" rest will work.

In my opinion, Grizzly has ALMOST got a great deal in this lathe. Adding another $100 to the cost for a much more user-friendly tool would be a GREAT deal. Plus, Grizzly, you might sell some add-on items you do not now offer.

Have wanted a full sized lathe for some time for my high school wood working elective. For the price this lathe is great. Only complaint is the locking system for the tool rest carriage and the live center. The lock bars are short and thin, so its difficult to actually....lock them. Plenty of power and weight, minimal vibration.

    What a Lathe! 6/5/2017

Bought this beast back in 2010 at the Williamsport store. Set it up myself, built the shelf underneath, put 3-1/2 semi solid 8 inch blocks on it and never looked back. 1000 bowls ,platters and 100's of spindles later and some huge newel posts ( 42 long x 10x10 inches square) and I didn't have to fork out 4K for a Powermatic. I can buy 5 new ones for one Powermatic all though that won't be necessary. Can't say enough good things about this lathe and the money it has made for me and the serendipity that turning brings. Warning wood turning is highly addictive!

    Great customer service 6/4/2017

The lathe was a good price compared to others with the same specifications.
Have used it alot with no problems.
The only problem was they have very few items i wanted in stock.

    Good starter lathe 6/2/2017

    Good first lathe 6/2/2017

I'm a professional furniture maker and this is my first lathe. I bought it to produce chair and table legs for a large order. It has done the trick for spindle turning, plenty of power for smaller diameter pieces and stable enough. I have my doubts about turning bowls or larger pieces on the lathe though. Maybe if I bolted it to the floor... but still it may not have the torque needed for a large bowl at low rpms.

    Good product 6/2/2017

Good Lathe . Just didn't realize how much I would need a slower speed for natural edge bowls to start out with . Odd shape bowl blanks . I would've purchased the variable speed . It's a Great lathe ! I've learned a lot from from this , Woodturning , and what to purchase next time if there is one . A Learning purchase .

Great value as well as great product. 6/2/2017

Glad i chose to spend a few extra dollarsto get this lathe. Great for beginners.

this is a great machine 6/2/2017

the G0462 is a much better lathe than the one I had that broke. I have been building custom tables and turning the legs. A lot of vibration on my old machine virtually none on my new Grizzly. The only problem and maybe its just me, but gearing down from the higher speeds sounds a bit weird. I guess I'll get used to it.

    wallace M

I have had my wood lathe for 3 or 4 months. So far I have made 4 pastille tables and am now working on bowls. I am very pleased with the lathe, it has been every thing that I hoped it would be. In the future I hope to buy a more expensive one from Grizzly. Grizzly did a wonderful job packing the lathe, it arrived in good shape.

Perfect lathe for the price! 6/1/2017

I bought this lathe just to do some hobby work and you can't get a better or larger lathe for the price. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for getting into turning.

    Joseph N
    Solid Machine, Great Value 5/25/2017

A very solid lathe, easy to use and no major inconveniences (so far). One would like a slower speed available. The banjo has to be courted a bit to learn how it positions and locks most easily. At 600 RPM there is some noticeable power loss. But all this can be accommodated. The machine quality is just fine and you'll want to take good care of it. I'm a left-handed turner and must have the head stock swivel feature for bowls. The swivel works fine and the banjo accommodates swivel turning. On my lathe, the head stock and tail stock centers were aligned vertically to within 0.005" on arrival. I'm more pleased than I thought I would be. Wonderful to have this tool in my shop.

    Real tools. 5/22/2017

After researching and considering all the current offerings for 110/120 v lathes the grizzly stood out as the sturdy work horse of the crop.
This tool is solid! Setup was a simple even with no help. Each part is heavy but liftable even for my 61 year old back.
I also own a Grizzly table saw and dust collector. I can't say how good or bad their customer service is because I've never needed it. These tools just work and the price can't be beat.

    Best buy ever 5/4/2017

Easy set up havent had a chance to try everything yet but what we have is easy and fun. Good quality machine.

Bang for the buck !!! 3/27/2017

I very seldom write reviews and I hardly ever give a perfect rating because there is always room to improve. But .... I made an exception because of a bad review I read here about the G0462. I bought this lathe about a year after it was first introduced. I've now owned this lathe for approximately 12-15 yrs. I challenge anyone to buy a similar lathe of equal price for the quality. Digital readout, variable speeds, hefty weight, solid build is all I wanted in my first lathe. I got my "bang for the buck" and then some.
Sure I've looked at replacing it many times with other brands, Delta, Jet, Powermatic, Nova, Laguna, One-Way get the point. If you are a beginning turner or even if your an experienced turner wanting to upgrade, give this lathe serious consideration if it fits your budget. If I had a few thousand dollars maybe I would upgrade but I've been turning on this lathe for 12-15 yrs. now, it's a great machine. In fact, my entire shop except for my drill press (Delta knockoff) and my Jet 6" Jointer (used) is completely outfitted with Grizzly machines. Bought my G1022Z table saw over 20 years ago and it still runs like it was new.
I read a lot of reviews about Grizzly tools being delivered in torn boxes and such. That's not Grizzly's fault. Some of these machines are heavy and it's the shipping companies fault for poor handling. I also read a lot of reviews about Grizzly customer service being so poor at times. On the contrary, I've been ordering pieces and parts to keep my machines going for years. You want tools to last you have to take care of them. That means maintenance. Their customer service is pretty good if you ask me. I don't get all the complaints.
Getting back to the lathe review. Sure this lathe doesn't have the fine machining and tolerances of say a One-Way. It doesn't cost 2 - 4,000 dollars either. My only gripe on the G0462 is the banjo (tool rest) assembly and quality. For just a small amount I think Grizzly could improve this item and have a really awesome lathe for the money. That is the ONLY reason I didn't give this lathe an "excellent" rating.
I stand by Grizzly, their machines and their customer service. Faithful customer for over 20 years and I don't plan on changing anytime soon.

    Nice lathe 2/9/2017

I bought this Lathe back in November and really didn't get a chance to use it until after the holidays. It's been working great for what I am doing(making bowls). I would like to have a little slower speed option at times but it hasn't been a problem. When you are turning small spindle stuff, the tool rest is a little awkward to get positioned and a narrower tool rest helps with that. A no frills tool that gets the job done. For a basic Lathe at this price point, this thing is awesome!

    Hank L
Great lathe on a budget price 2/8/2017

If upgrading from a midi lathe (12 inch Rikon) to a full size on a low budget, this is a nice lathe. I am impressed with the reeves drive and the digital read-out. I understand that the reeves drive requires a different attitude in switching speeds - i.e. don't yank it, I can change speeds from 600 to 2800 in about 4 to 6 seconds, and back down in about the same. I really like not having to change belts for speed changes, and at a decent budget price too. One thing I am used to on my Rikon is a locking pin for adding or taking off the face plate or chuck. But, I have adapted to using a wrench already on the G0462.

It has plenty of power for me - after using the 12" Rikon for 10 years. I have not tried an outboard turning yet. While it is heavy enough that it needs two people to set it up (unless you are a 250/300 lb muscle man) it is still on the light side for 16" and larger turnings. It needs to be bolted down for sure.

(I have only had this for 6 weeks and been using it for 2 weeks at the time of this review.)

Great product for the price. 2/7/2017

I bought my G0462 Lathe 1 1/2 months ago. I have been learning on a Jett Mini lathe and needed to step up to something bigger. Would have loved to have gotten the G0632Z, or even the G0766, but alas just too much for my hobby budget. For the price the GO462 has been well worth it. It would be nice to have a 3 phase dial speed control but the "Shift-on-fly" system is fine and I don't really need the accuracy of digital control at this point anyway. I've roughed out about 20-30 bowls 8-10" dia. from wet wood. What a dream to watch the shavings peel off like butter. I've finished about 6 smaller bowls and it's so nice to have a bigger and more solid machine to work on. I've played with the outboard feature a bit and like the ability to work on hollowing out the bowl with it facing more toward me. It's a solid machine with plenty of torque.

Here's my downsides. It would really be nice to have a lock on the head stock. Mounting and removing wood from my Nova G3 screw chuck is a challenge because there is no way to hold the headstock secure. I would mount a Flywheel on the opposite side of the headstock if I could, (like i have on my JETT mini) but I don't see any way to do that. Also, the tail stock locks down secure to the base, but when I turn the live tail into the wood the base tends to slide to the right. I think this is a design issue. Oh, also I've pinched my finger a couple times changing the speed where the handle connects to the shaft. No big deal, once you do it a time or too you'll remember to grab the top of the handle.

Over all I'm liking it so far and think it's a great buy for the price. I wouldn't let the downsides I listed prevent me from buying it.

I bought it 2 months ago after looking at several other machines. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but setup was a piece of cake. I have a whole shop full of Grizzly tools a have full confidence that it will stand up to my needs !

    Awesome tool 1/29/2017

For the lower end of the lathe spectrum, this tool has a lot of power. I've been running mine for over a month now and it has only gotten better as it brakes in

Benefits and Drawbacks to this specific machine 1/29/2017

I bought this machine around 2 years ago which gives me enough time to write an accurate review. I first want to say that this is an EXCELLENT machine if you are interested in getting into turning and want to start with a full size lathe. This also comes at a cost however. If you are likely interested in bowl turning, as I was, this lathe goes as slow as 600 RPM when new and since the belt is a little worn on mine, hovers around 650 which is way too fast to turn pieces that are much larger than 10 inches if they are not extremelly balanced otherwise you might end up chasing the mahcine around the shop. Perhaps for this reason, it might be advisable to go with the 12" Mini Lathe that Grizzly offers which has a variable speed control which is a huge plus for safety and as an added bonus is also fairly convenient to use as well. When buying this lathe I did not really consider a variable speed lathe because I thought 600 RPM would be slow enough and experience has taught me otherwise. To compensate for all the movement I used a couple of 2X4's to let me stack a few sandbags which adds about 200lb of weight to the machine which seems to help dampen the vibration a little but the best way to do it is with good speed control. I also tend to use very hefy 2" WOOD SCREWS when securing large blanks because I can safetly reuse the screws and never have to worry about them snapping. This product does everything that it advertises and runs well without problems. A lot of my problems arose from my failure to apprehend the type of machine I was buying. Regardless, I would certainly recommend this machine for anyone interested in buying a lathe but as you become more experienced, you will demand more of it, as I did, and slowly realize that this machine may lack in a few niche situations. Regardless, I don't usually have regular access to 15" bowl blanks that are 6-7" thick, so this is not a regular problem I run into. Another thing I might mention is that the curviture of the tailstock to the left (look at photo) has a tendency to limit your tool rest when turning small spindles or large bowls where you do not have much room to move the banjo (again, a very niche situation). Anyway, I hope this was helpful and I urge you to start turning!

    Love it ! 1/27/2017

The Lathe is much larger and heavier than I thought! Very nice !

I actually bought several products...wood lathe.14in band saw with mobile stand..wet sander...very quick delivery on all products...also talked to cust. service before each purchase and it was a pleasure to speak to your support personnel who could answer each question I had concerning the products...I also bought some woodworking tools...have used all these products..have had no problems with setup and I have enjoyed using all of them..good job!

I am a hobbiest wood worker, this lathe is perfect for what I needed.

I have not had a great deal of time to use the lathe yet, but it is very well made and the material it is made of makes it very stable and smooth running.

    Great Value. 1/26/2017

The cast iron legs and rails really add to the stability of the product. At this stage of my turning it is exactly what I was looking for.

Works great.I have to machine tool holder posts that didn't come with it,or drill out the hole in the bango to 1".Still glad I bought it

Good machine for the price...solid! 1/26/2017

Good lathe except for the tailstock design which limits the spindle length that can be turned. Also, a shorter tool rest should be included or offered as an accessory. I like the head stock features for outboard turning.

Nice Lathe... Packed for shipping like I've never seen before... 1/26/2017

only thing... in the description of Item they should be up front about shipping. My box was like 350-ish pounds. If my location wouldn't support a full sized Tractor Trailer for delivery... then I would have to pick it up from the Trucking terminal. Truck Driver DOES NOT HELP with unloading. If you want a truck to come with a power tailgate... it's $35 extra. Trucking terminal said no power tailgate truck available... and No big trucks allowed in my area. I'm 64 with bad knees. I almost cancelled the order account of this.
My trucking terminal told me by phone (I called them) they would load it into the back of my pickup truck. So that's what I did. At home... I busted the crate open in the back of the truck and took it inside 1 piece at a time. The motor piece was a little heavy but I managed. Other than that... I'm happy with Grizzly. But my next purchase will be iffy... if it's a heavy item.

    Good lathe 1/26/2017

The lathe workers exactly as stated. Works perfect for the 4 or 5 projects I have done so far. I'm not using it to run a business from, just hobby work, and it's great for that.

Very good machine for the price 7/7/2016

I've had this lathe for 4 years now, since I bought it I joined a woodturning club. The lathe has served me well and I've enjoyed it thoroughly. It's a great price for a very good lathe. If you think you want to get into woodturning as a serious hobby you may consider one the higher-end lathes. This lathe, however, will start you off very well. For $700 you can't beat this lathe. Having said that - my wish list (and now I'm looking at G0766 or G0799 as an ADDITION - NOT a replacement!) for a lathe now includes:
    -Lower spindle speeds (200-300 RPM)
    -Reversing spindle direction
-Manual spindle rotation on outside of headstock
    -Electronic speed adjustment
Having said this - if you're a hobbyist this is a great lathe. I've made bowls, hollow forms, segmented work peppermills, wine stoppers, pens, etc. on this lathe and have been very happy with it. I think I'm ready to step up - but will stay with Grizzly.
As far as maintenance - I've replaced drive belt twice and motor pulley set once and Tool rest body once (it cracked). I've accumulated lots of other accessories too - chucks, faceplates, turning tools, finishes, etc.
Keep in mind, when you buy your lathe you'll spend that dollar amount again on tools for it!
    In summary:
A good intro lathe that is a workhorse, is solid and will serve you very well.
For the price it really can't be beat unless you buy a mini somewhere with a couple of the other features - but losing the size and stability of this machine.

    Unsatisfied with Grizzly
Poor return policy and customer service 6/14/2016

Ordered April 7 along with a chuck and other accessories. Grizzly said shipment was back ordered and expected it to ship May 19. Lathe didn't arrive until May 27. Accessories didn't arrive until May 31 so could not use the lath. Since the accessories didn't arrive on time I purchased replacements from Woodcraft so I could use the Lathe and decided to return the late items. One of the items was plastic and the package wasn't padded enough so the chuck destroyed the plastic item. Upon the return Grizzly wanted a 10% restocking fee which is ridiculous since I just spent $800 plus on their products. They said they wouldn't charge 10% for the $5.50 plastic piece but would have to on the other accessories since nothing was wrong with them other than late. The lath itself is fine for the price however I would not recommend Grizzly due to their poor return policy and customer service. I am getting ready to buy a 14" bandsaw and was going to buy the Grizzly however after their horrible service I will be buying the Laguna. Plus it has better reviews for resaw.

Happy to spend my hard earned money with this company 2/24/2016

I ordered this machine Late Thursday night online, Then Friday night when I checked my email I had received and email saying my lathe had been shipped!! And it this wasn't just one of those generic emails stating they received my order, I was provided the tracking number, So I figured I'd track it just to see what the expected delivery date they were showing, the shipment was already loaded on a truck heading my way(Less than 24 hours!!!), with a delivery date being Tuesday 2/23/2016, By this time I was pretty impressed by the speed of the transaction so far. I didn't bother checking the status of the order at all over the weekend but Monday morning 2/22/2016 around 8:00 am I decided to check it (only because I was impressed with the speed of shipping so far) As I'm looking at the freight company's web site I received a phone call with a gentleman telling me my freight was on the loading dock at my local terminal ready for me to pick up!! By 10:00 am Monday I was making sawdust in my shop!! The lathe was shipped from Grizzly's Springfield, MO location to as far south in Louisiana as a human can travel This may not seen like a big deal to some of you but I personally think this is absolutely Superb customer service on Grizzly's part ! The machine arrived it a very nicely packed crate with minimal assembly required. The quality and ease of operation of the lathe far exceeded my expectations, Nowhere else in this country will a person receive this type of excellent customer service an quality at very affordable price Grizzly has earned a new lifetime customer with this transaction I have purchased a shop full of tools over the past 2 years from Grizzly with all transactions very comparable to this one ( although this one being the fastest to date so far ) the Grizzly company truly puts customer needs ahead of everything I have never written any type of review for anything I ever purchased online but when I purchase any item online I read lots of reviews before I go through with it, So this short book I've written about my experience with Grizzly is a small token of my appreciation for the perfection in customer service and product quality I've received from this company over the past 2 years keep up the good work Grizzly your hard work and focus on customer satisfaction Is impressively appreciated !

    My First Lathe 1/29/2016

I must have spent 3 years researching lathes before buying this one as my first lathe. After 2 years, I can say that it was an excellent choice. This lathe is durable, reliable, and solid as a rock. To improve stability for odd shaped projects I filled a gunny sack with sand to add extra weight to the base. My neighbor is an expert wood turner and owns a top-of-the-line lathe. After a lesson with him, I can return to my Grizzly lathe and resume turning with virtually zero noticeable difference. The only suggestion that I would make concerning my Grizzly lathe is that the low-end turning speed be lessened from a minimum of 600 rpm to around 300 rpm. This would make the roughing out process easier. Nonetheless, I have roughed out bowls close to 12" in diameter with very little difficulty. Thanks Grizzly for creating a tool that has led to a lifetime hobby!

    Great Product! Excellent value! 1/29/2016

Fast shipping and well shipped in a wooden crate. Super easy assembly. I had it up and running in a little under an hour by myself. It runs smooth, has plenty of power, changes gears very smoothly and doesn't bog down with large legs. I can now work at my own pace again. I'm very satisfied with this lathe both in value and functionality. Great Job Grizzly! Indexing would have been nice as well as forward and reverse but I can work around that.

    Customer Review 1/1/2015

Last Thursday morning I ordered a wood lathe with digital readout from Grizzly, Model G0462. It arrived 4 business days later. Good job Grizzly! I had the neighbor come over and help put it together. Although the box was a little torn, everything was fine except for a chip in the paint on one leg. I am learning to make plates/bowls on a lathe . My instructor came over last night to look it over and he really liked it. He said I got a lot of machine for the money I spent and the quality looked good. Thank you very much. I have to clean it up today before I can try it out. I am sure that I will be using it for a long time. Thank you Grizzly for a good quality machine and a great price.
