Need a solid cast-iron lathe with big capacity? Well, look no further, because this 18" x 47" Wood Lathe has it all! You'll appreciate the cast-in shelf brackets for adding additional mass, variable-speed control in two torque ranges, digital speed indicator, forward and reverse switch and convenient utility basket. Single-phase frequency drive technology provides the electronic variable-speed control without the three-phase power requirement. All you need is standard 220 Volt, single-phase power to be up and running in no time. You'll be amazed by all the quality and innovative features this lathe has to offer!

We changed from a (brushless) DC motor to a 3-phase AC motor for several reasons. It's quieter, electrically more efficient, and provides smoother power output - especially at slower speeds. The DC motor design can be a bit choppy at slower speeds, and while most users wouldn't notice this, we decided it was worth the upgrade. Also, 3-phase AC motors are the most reliable motor design that there is. So the change improves both the performance and reliability of an already outstanding heavy-duty wood lathe.

    Very fine machine
    5/ 5stars

I got this machine about a month ago, been doing some turning on it and it is about the nicest lathe I have ever ran. It replaced a 12x36 pre 70's Rockwell Delta, it too was a fine lathe but I wanted more capacity, and this machine delivers it, it took a little getting used to the amount of power the unit has, the old one had a 1/2 or 3/4 HP motor, so if you gouged a little too much it would stop the spindle, but it doesn't even slow it down on this unit

Definitely would recommend this machine if you are looking for a quality machine

    Lacking in one important area
    4/ 5stars

I have no complaints with the power of the lathe and its overall operation. However I can't believe it was designed without an easy way to manually turn the headstock spindle. Which is a must for easy sanding and/or checking the progress of a project.... You either have to grab the chuck or other workpiece mounting hardware which I found out is not safe, (after the threads of the spindel cut my hand pretty bad.... and left a metal spur in it to be dug out...) or grab and turn the actual work piece. Both of which are not convenient. A lathe this powerfull with so many options could have really hit a homerun with this simple little addition. Making things even worse, when I called it's not even an option you can buy....

    Great Value
    4/ 5stars

Stepped up to this machine from a small Pen turning lath. I have been utilizing this machine for a couple of months now, and I truly love the machine. The price is really great for the quality of machine that you are getting. Two suggestions, that would make the experience a 5 star and even better. Change the diameter of the tool rest shaft to a full 1", vs. the metric 25mm. Accessory tool rest are really, really hard to find, and almost nonexistent. And yes, as a previous writer mentioned, it really does need a headstock hand wheel? If not for this hiccup I would have certainly rated this machine a 5 star.
