Sitka Spruce is known for its fine tonal qualities and is the wood of choice for the best acoustic instrument tops. It is also one of the best woods for weight to strength ratio and is sought after by aircraft builders. Our Sitka Spruce trees come from Northern British Columbia and each log is cut to soundboard lengths and split into wedge shaped billets (like large pieces of firewood). We resaw these billets into sets at Grizzly under the guidance of the President of Grizzly (who builds guitars). Our 4A grade is quite often sold by others as Master grade. Nice light color with straight tight grain. Steelstring size is 8-1/8" x 22" (one set consists of two perfectly bookmatched pieces). About 3/16" thick with 12 to 20 growth lines per inch. Our Mastergrade soundboards are truly incredible with 18+ lines per inch, sometimes a lot more!
