A compact and convenient combination machine.

The G0634XP 12" Planer/Jointer with Helical Cutterhead combines a powerful 5 HP motor with a 4-row spiral cutterhead. Producing straight-on cuts up to 12" wide, the inserts sit square to the axis of the cutterhead, with the cutting edges perpendicular to the workpiece. The 32 indexable carbide insert cutters can each be rotated three times to expose new, sharp cutting edges.

The power is transferred from the 5 HP motor to the cutterhead by the twin V-belt design. This ensures maximum power connection between the cutterhead and the feed drive.

The jointer has a depth of cut scale on the front. The fence can be positioned at any angle between 45° and 90° as indicated by the tilt scale.

The planer features cast-iron infeed and outfeed tables, two feed rollers, anti-kickback fingers and a thickness scale.

Conversion from the jointer to the planer is easy. Just remove the quick-release fence and flip up the jointer tables. The heavy-duty cast-iron tables are precision-ground to a mirror-like finish.

Like all Grizzly machines, the G0634XP comes with a 1-year warranty covering parts and assuring the unit is free from factory defects. (Consumables are not covered by the warranty.)

The G0634XP manual was written by our U.S. based Technical Documentation Department and is packed with useful information. The complete and easy to read manual makes it easier to assemble and maintain your Planer/Jointer.

The Grizzly Customer Service and Technical Support Teams are U.S. based. Parts and accessories are available on-line and shipped from the Grizzly parts warehouse in Springfield, MO.

Very Pleased So Far 06/19/2020 10:56:49 AM

I have only been able to use the XP a couple of times so far but early returns are positive. Very pleased with delivery and set up process. Basically delivered fully assembled and ready to use. I would recommend based on my experience so far.

Small shop? Great idea 05/15/2020 11:46:47 PM

I have a small garage shop. Not a lot of room for large tools. I looked at jointers from 6 to 8 inches till I went crazy. After spending thousands of bucks, was I willing to end up with one tool which would not even joint an 8.5 inch wide board? Enter this machine. For me, a match made in heaven. Id buy it again simply as a jointer alone for handling boards up to 12 inches! However, add in a new helical head planer, too!!! You do the math for Your situation, but Ill recommend this option to all my peers who need a truly usable jointer. Now the switching between the two tools does take about 30 seconds, so beware! The only drawback I must list is that fence...it must be removed and stored when you use the planer. It has a plastic tail to cover the wide blade, and removes easily with some patience and strength...the fence is not heavy, but awkward. I have seen some combos that make this task obsolete, but you will have to pay considerably for this upgrade, from my research.

So happy I purhcased this! 01/17/2020 6:56:48 PM

This is one of those tools after you get it that you say to yourself, how did I live with out this for so long. Great fit and finish, arrived ontime after a long wait for them to come back in stock. Very little adjustment needed after getting it set up for the first time. Strong motor, the Spiral cutterhead does a great job on hard wood. Very smooth finish. I highly recommend this unit or the G0634Z although this one is cheaper and has a longer fence.

    Excellent machine. 08/10/2018 11:57:55 AM

I'm getting used to the height of the jointer - it will be about 8" to 10" higher than a normal jointer bed, so it feels very different to me. However, the jointing is smooth and the planing works well too. I had to make a small adjustment to the kill switch (the machine shuts off if the tables are lifted - which is good. However, the switch was set such that the machine wouldn't turn on even when the tables were down. It took me a while to trace that out, but it was easily adjustable.

    Sweet 04/25/2018 3:12:57 PM

I have names for all of my large tools and my daughter asked me what was thename. I told her the Beast. Ive only had this machine for a month and can say it has the cleanest cut. Ive run oak, maple, pine and cedar through it. Ive exam them under great and can said I dont think I would have to sand at all. I would highly recommend

Pretty much what the Doctor Ordered A Solid A- to B+ 01/26/2018 4:16:00 AM

Overall - love it but if I give 5 stars I can't give constructive feedback....

The planer runs a bit fast so snipe can be an issue but this can be fixed by doing a final very slow pass on the jointer so leave room to do so. Power is awesome, noise is minimal for all that power. Surprised that the helical cutterhead has so few cutters on it. I would pay more to get a few more but again if you move the wood slow enough it is a non issue.

Changeover is easy and it seems to keep its adjustment but I only have a couple large projects done so that remains to be seen.

I added the Wixey digital height gauge - pretty much a requirement to do precision work and I am surprised something like it is not an option when you buy.

This is the one to buy if you keep it against the wall so pay attention to that issue as the other one needs more space behind it.

Dust collection is so-so but no worse than anything else I own. I have a 3 hp dust collection system that sucks like crazy and I am constantly amazed at the bad design in pretty much every dust connection on every tool I use regardless of brand.

I did a lot of research before settling here and for a home woodworker who occasionally does large production runs this is the best value out there. There are other units in this price range but overall I think I like the fence and guard and ease of change better than the competitors by enough to buy this one instead of those.
You might do better by spending twice as much but you are more likely to spend three times as much to improve on what you get here.

    Mmm...Not sure 06/22/2017 3:51:10 AM

Bought, shipped same day, arrived 2 DAYS LATER. Damn, that is some fast shipping! Arrived completely intact, no damage. Unpacked it, assembled mobile base and started assembling/checking out the fit and finish. This is where I find myself at least preliminarily a little bit wary of a few things. First thing I have to say is that I've never had to spend as much time and sweat to clean off the industrial oil used as a rust barrier from the manufacturer. This stuff was CAKED on and dry, not oily but more like it was baked on there in a 1/16" layer. Worse was that it was also all over the cutterhead and knives! After about an hour with a combination of large quantities of solvents, 3M pads, and a lot of cursing, I was finally able to get most of it off, though certainly some still lingers on the cutterhead because that's just not an easy part to clean. I find this pretty obnoxious. Second, while cleaning both the jointer tables and planer table underneath, it gave me some time to check out the machine. Fit and finish is not super impressive, paint spray on some parts that it shouldn't be on, some small chips in the paint missing in some areas, plastic caps on the fence mount arm look like they were cut by a three year old in a hurry. The fence is aluminum--albeit heavy aluminum--and while the end mount style fence is a feature I like I would prefer there to be some kind of reinforcement close to the cutterhead to stop any variation as well as a heavier duty, cast iron fence. I don't see why the end mount wasn't designed so that it could rotate up and away with the table so that one doesn't have to remove the fence every time switching to planer mode, and then reseat and recalibrate the fence when returning to jointer mode. I have no idea what the heck the plastic "rear guard link" is supposed to achieve since it's not attached to anything, and also WHY IS IT PLASTIC?! Delivered to my door, I paid $2,900 for this: I DON'T WANT TO SEE PLASTIC PARTS ON MY MACHINE. Some machines right off of the truck just blow me away by how well setup and calibrated from the factory they are and this truly makes my life so much easier. Not so with the G0634XP. Basically just need to recalibrate as the tolerances aren't tight enough in the parallelism/coplanar realm of things. One other thing is the Shop Fox Heavy Duty Mobile Base I purchased with this: it's bad. Not because the base doesn't what it should, but because the casters are terrible. Moving this thing around on my flat concrete floors is like pushing a 500lb rock in sand. Needs beefier casters, don't see why there can't be all 4 swivel casters instead of 2 swivel and 2 fixed on it as well. All that being said...

...I haven't ran it through it's paces yet, and I'm sure once I get it calibrated and up to snuff I'll be happy enough. Given that this particular machine was awarded "Best Overall" by Finewoodworking in the combo machines category, I'm not pleasantly surprised by the quality right away and currently am maybe wishing I had just ordered one of the parallel bed jointers instead of a combo machine, but hopefully I'll get used to it and everything will work. We'll see!

    5hp 12" spiral jointer planer 06/01/2017 7:16:08 PM

Ordered. Received quickly. About one week. This machine works excellent. Leaves a nice finish. I use about 5-10 times a week. Small lumber, fat lumber. I've planed down to as little as 3/16". I've put some exceptionally hard oak through with results that are pleasing. A real quality machine. It's cheaper than comparable machines with a fair shipping price. I will definitely be buying more
Grizzly products. Probably a large bandsaw or tablesaw.
