So, for the money, this is a great little machine. Does a decent job on aluminum and even the light stainless I've thrown at it. Coupled it with a 4" vice and it does pretty well. That being said, the spindle and transmission gears are cheap nylon. Tried using an annular cutter on some 5086 aluminum and shredded teeth off both gears. Luckily, these are the same gears as the 7" lathes, and I had a spare set after doing a metal gear conversion on that. I will be upgrading this to those as well. The 32 tooth gear on the transmission shaft that mates to the motor pinion appears to be ABS and should act as the sacrificial gear after that swap is done. Also, the cover for the motor and draw bar actually make it noisier. I was impressed with how well it was trammed right out of the crate, only off by about 0.003" per my tramming tool (4" span) and got it corrected to about 0.002" for the whole traverse of the table on a dial indicator. Nice package overall, definitely a step up from the tiny ones, especially with the variety of R8 tooling available.
