So, for the money, this is a great little machine. Does a decent job on aluminum and even the light stainless I've thrown at it. Coupled it with a 4" vice and it does pretty well. That being said, the spindle and transmission gears are cheap nylon. Tried using an annular cutter on some 5086 aluminum and shredded teeth off both gears. Luckily, these are the same gears as the 7" lathes, and I had a spare set after doing a metal gear conversion on that. I will be upgrading this to those as well. The 32 tooth gear on the transmission shaft that mates to the motor pinion appears to be ABS and should act as the sacrificial gear after that swap is done. Also, the cover for the motor and draw bar actually make it noisier. I was impressed with how well it was trammed right out of the crate, only off by about 0.003" per my tramming tool (4" span) and got it corrected to about 0.002" for the whole traverse of the table on a dial indicator. Nice package overall, definitely a step up from the tiny ones, especially with the variety of R8 tooling available.

Good Little Mill 04/19/2018 2:04:03 PM

As with all things Grizzly, this is a good value, not a high-cost ultra-precise aerospace machine. Overall it functions very well, provided you understand its limitations. The use of ball bearings limits the precision under higher loads, and the plastic gears limit the load. The odd axes travel of .0625" per revolution can make measuring movements on the handwheel difficult as well as making; a DRO can help. I have enjoyed the variable speed control instead of changing belts. Make sure you check the gibs to maintain accurate, smooth motion. It has been great for small parts, particularly in aluminum. It perfectly fits a specific need for me. For that purpose I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it - and have!

Great little mill. Just have to remember it's a little mill and not a Bridgeport. Had it a week and destroyed the sacrificial gear that runs spindle. Took to heavy a cut in stainless and it stripped teeth right off plastic gear. If you buy this tool be sure to purchase extra 27t gears or plan on doing a belt drive conversion. Still waiting for a warranty gear from grizzly. Purchased my own and they came I a week. Otherwise great little mill.

Very nice mini mill 01/25/2018 11:24:57 AM

Ive done some work with it. First mill Ive owned or used so not a lot I can say. It seems to be well built and seems robust.

I have used the mill for two different projects now and it has performed flawlessly. I am extremely pleased with it.

Excellent product; made like the Cincinnatti mill I ran years ago. 09/30/2017 8:09:46 PM

I am not disappointed with this machine. It's an excellent piece of equipment--though small!

Great for its size and price 03/01/2017 7:15:55 PM

Ive had the mill roughly 6 months and i like it. Ive made all kinds of stuff with it and it has rised to every chalange . its a great tool to have, ide say its gotta be one of the best mini mills/bench top mills ive seen. The only thing im not fond of is the lock levers for the table and there is no dro but for what i paid for the machine im more than happy with its durability and functionability.
