Use a dab of lithium grease on the spindle before mounting or it will seize on the 8 tpi. And will need a torch to get it off. I used a indicator and it is within .0003 off the bat when mounted, so very happy with that.

Fair product given the price paid 06/09/2018 1:51:54 PM

The jaws don't meet evenly when fully closed. I haven't checked the run-out yet but by eye it seems to be running reasonably true. It's an OK chuck and quite heavy considering the price.

Just what I needed 09/27/2017 11:24:45 AM

I've looked for some time for a 3-jaw chuck large enough to hold the caps on my custom wooden fly rod cases. This fits the bill nicely. I am also able to hold the 6-sided bamboo fly rod blank for turning cork handles and filing ferrule stations. The chuck is heavy, which helps in keeping vibrations to a minimum, and the jaws are precisely made for perfect concentricity. I'm very happy.

Excellent Accessory 06/02/2017 3:13:01 AM

The Grizzly 6" 3 jaw chuck is a well-constructed, quality accessory for any wood lathe with a 1 inch 8 TPI headstock. After cleaning the machine oil off, the unit installed in seconds. Adjustments to the chuck are made using the 2 tools provided, which slip into holes along the circumference of the chuck. The adjustment tools fit well and are inserted and removed easily. Tightening and loosening the chuck with these tools is quite easy, and the chuck holds the work piece very securely.

The centering accuracy of this chuck seems to be quite accurate. I haven't tried measuring eccentricity with a dial indicator but it seems quite good.

I have mounted various types of plastic in this chuck and have been very happy with the results.

I would definitely recommend this item to a friend, and I am planning to purchase the 4 jaw version of this as well.
