"Independent” means that each jaw moves independently. Such 4-jaw chucks are used for holding odd shaped pieces or where zero tolerance is required. These 4-jaw chucks have semi-steel bodies and hardened reversible jaws. Requires a back plate to mount to your spindle. Bore: 2 1/8"

Note: The mounting holes for this specific chuck are through the back.

I have a Grizzly combo lathe which came with a 3 jaw chuck. I needed a 4 jaw independent chuck so that I could adjust the center point of material that I was turning. The 6" 4 jaw independent chuck will do the job, but it is larger than I would have preferred. A 4" or a 3" 4 jaw independent chuck would have been perfect.

Works very well 10/26/2019 1:04:16 PM

I had an eight in 4 jaw chuck on my Lathe, and I simply got tired of picking it up and putting it on my lathe when I needed four jaw. 40 years was enough of that!! The 6" four jaw works fine!!

Great Value! 06/13/2019 12:49:06 PM

This was on back-order for some time, and I haven't actually installed it as of yet.
However, it appears to be the same good quality as the 8" version that I ordered at the same time.
I don't expect any issues with this chuck, except for getting off my rear and getting it installed.

Chuck to Chuck 12/28/2017 6:37:30 PM

I have a 16x60 metal lathe and desired working on smaller items. I chucked this 4-jaw chuck in my 10-inch three-jaw chuck and offset my part and cut a precise 2-inch diameter hole for my Punch die-holder. This worked extremely well. I don't need a backing plate for chucking in a chuck which eliminates switching chucks.
This chuck in a chuck worked so well I may, in the future, purchase a Plain-back 4-jaw scroll-chuck to chuck up even smaller parts.
