Removable Jaw Plate 05/28/2018 1:45:52 AM

I'm waiting for Grizzly to replace the removable jaw plates that broke the first time I clamped a piece of 1 1/2" angle. I had a Grizzly 5" vise w/anvil for 15 yrs until my neighbor broke it; so, I decided to buy another to replace it. But as of today one month after the new purchase, I will hold my evaluation until I learn what Grizzly will do to replace the removable jaw plates.

Up Date: I'm extremely please with Grizzly. They replace the item showing that they are a great company committed to both their product and customer. My rating is a ***** star and recommend Grizzly to anyone who is looking for great customer service and great products!

Very sturdy. Base pivot it awkward and not well machined. That's what you get for such a low price.

Just buy it! 08/19/2016 3:14:14 PM

This vise is really an incredible deal for the money. Casting quality is excellent, and the well-machined slide keeps the jaws parallel throughout the range of motion. It is heavier and has a greater opening distance compared to other 5" vises on the market. The large anvil surface is very handy as well. However, if you are one of those people who like to beat on their vises with a sledge hammer, then you are likely better off with a forged vise. Expect to pay a lot more for that as forging is an expensive process.

My only complaint is not with the vise itself but with UPS. The package was dropped at least twice between Springfield and Houston, as there were holes on both sides where the jaws broke through the box. The damage was only cosmetic, but this package mishandling seems to be the rule rather than the exception for anything that weighs over 20 lbs. I'd be willing to pay extra to have things double-boxed.
