    Good Shaper 08/03/2020 4:30:49 PM

This is my first shaper, so maybe it is great or maybe it is just good. I'll explain my 4 star rating first.
There are two things I am not really thrilled with on this shaper.

    1) I bought it knowing that there are only two speeds, but I also bought it knowing that I will be able to have two speeds. The higher speed is for router bits (which I have more of than shaper cutters right now). The downside is changing the speeds is a little bit of a chore and knuckleduster. It is done inside the cabinet without much working room. I suppose most lower end shapers with more than one speed are set up similarly for changing speeds, so I'll be OK with this.

    2) The second thing I'm not sure I like is the split fence. It is adjustable in many ways, but that means there are a lot of adjutants to make. I think a single piece fence would be easier to work with. But maybe once I get some more shaper cutters I'll see the value in the split fence.

    Now what I like.
The fence system is set up great for dust collection and it does work like a champ. I have it hooked to my Shop Fox 1685 Dust Collection unit.
    Smooth running motor and spindle.
    Easy to reach controls.
Mobile base works well in my shop.
Somewhat easy to change from shaper to router collets.
    Heavy and sturdy.

I haven't done any large scale shaping or hardwood panel work yet, but all indications so far are that it will handle these with grace.

I would recommend this shaper as a great deal at the price point. For me, in my own personal shop where I don't have to do production work to earn a living, this shaper is perfect. I have some videos of unpacking and setup that I will post later.
