Got this planer a few weeks ago set was easy and it's been put to the test on a lot of old pine i'v pulled out of my building, so far it's been great! plus it's much quieter than a my old planer!

Too Bad This One is no longer available.
I bought this back in early June and I am glad I did. It was set spot on right out of the crate and has been nothing short of a beast at stock removal.
I did have a newer Jet machine that was not only lightweight but was plagued with problems. I got rid of it and bought this one to replace it, what a great move that was.
This machine is no less than twice the weight, has had zero issues, and is roughly half the cost as the jet. Granted, it was on sale/clearance here but man what a deal!

So far so good 07/21/2020 2:35:16 AM

Just unpacked it and went through set-up according to instructions. Overall, pretty straight forward. Machine looks and feels as expected but this is my first larger planer. I had a Makita 2012 NB prior to this one. I really appreciate how quieter this machine runs but one would expect this since they are two different types of machines. I also didn't know this was being discontinued but I have no worries about it either. Attaching the wings was a bit of work (two person job) and I wasn't able to get them completely flat/aligned. I don't think it will cause issues though. The hole to fill the gear box with gear oil is hard to reach because its in an odd place. If you plan to use it, you'll need one of those oil pump from your local auto store. They're pretty cheap. But I called Grizzly and there is another access point on top (known shop workaround) which is easier to use and less messy. It just isn't documented. I love the built on caster! I haven't used it long enough yet to give five stars. If it is good over time, I'll update my rating. Then again...this is a discontinued model so...

new steelex helix head planer 05/31/2020 1:12:58 PM

My straight blade planer caused my dust collector problems. The longer shavings caused the suction lines to become blocked. No such problems with the helix head. It also runs with about one tenth the noise level

So far so good, haven't had it long but it seems well built. 05/04/2020 12:01:06 AM

This machine replaced a 13" Delta planer. I'm looking forward to the simplicity of changing out one small cutter square knife rather than a whole set of knives when they get dull or knicked.

A solid performer 09/21/2017 1:49:18 PM

I called Grizzley in August to order their 15 inch HH planer but they were back ordered for 4 months. They suggested the Steelex 15 in HH as a substitute because it was available and appears to be the identical machine with a different name plate. Overall happy with purchase. Have run a variety of hardwoods and softwoods through. The HH head does a great job. After tweeking I have reduced snipe to an acceptable level. My only suggestion to the design engineers is to incorporate a simpler more refined way to adjust any of the feed or drive rollers height. Too many set screws and cam turnings to try and achieve a thousands of an inch tweek. Its a big investment but well worth it.

The setup of the unit takes some time but is worth it. I am happy with my purchase.
