DC1430 1/4" Shank Extra-Length 3/8" 8° Dovetail Router Bit

An 8° dovetail bit is a type of router bit to cut dovetail joints with an 8-degree angle between the tails and pins of the joint.

Dovetail joints are commonly used in woodworking to provide strong and durable connections when joining two pieces of wood together at right angles.

An extra-long shank allows these bits to be used with any jig or dovetail template.

The shearing action cuts serves four purposes:

  1. Smoother cutting action: The shear angle cuts through the wood more smoothly, reducing chipping and tear-out.
  2. Improved chip clearance: The shear angle lifts the chips away from the cutting edge, preventing them from clogging the bit and causing burning.
  3. Longer tool life: The shear angle reduces friction between the bit and the wood, leading to less wear and tear on the cutting edge.
  4. Self-feeding: The shear angle can create a self-feeding effect, where the bit pulls itself through the wood–especially helpful for plunge cuts

The DC1430 has a 1/4" shank and can be used in either handheld or mounted in a router table.
