Mortising chisels are specialized chisels used by woodworkers to create square or rectangular-shaped holes, called mortises.

This 3/4" Mortising Chisel is great for drilling square holes in wood with a mortising machine or a mortising attachment (not included).

One common use is to create joints in furniture or other wooden objects.

The mortising chisel creates the square or rectangular hole (the mortise) into which the tenon will fit snugly.

Mortising chisels are also useful for creating slots and other rectangular cutouts in wood.

Two examples are to create a slot for a hinge or a lock plate in a door frame.

The D2844 fits mortising attachments with 3/4" collars.
