I purchased the G0555LX 14" after quite a lot of research. First impression on unpacking the saw was very good quality. I'm actually quite astonished that a company can deliver this much metal: cast Iron, steel and aluminum engineered and machined to very close tolerances at this price break. Let me explain, first off, I am a hobbyist, I build acoustic and electric guitars, I have also built a work bench and various jigs -all in my spare time. So my experience is intermediate. I have been slowly building a shop for myself while using a professional Luthiers shop to build my guitars, After looking at all the top manufacturers it became apparent that Grizzly made more bandsaws among other machine tools than any other company, They also had the most positive and thorough reviews than any other. I narrowed my choice and pulled the trigger. The bandsaw arrived within 5 days as promised, minor damage to the cardboard-the machine very well protected encased in styrofoam. This guy is HEAVY. You need the lift gate service and a strong friend, don't even imagine you can lift the saw onto the stand by yourself. It took me about 8 hours working at a leisurely pace to completely set up the saw including fine tuning the guide bearings, adjusting blade tension, aligning the table, and setting up the fence. Having done all that and using a 3/8" Timberwolf raker blade I'm getting perfectly smooth, square cuts, within .001" in consistency. The fence is incredibly accurate right out of the box, fine tuned I can make cuts within .005" easily just looking at the ruler. That's because of the magnifying glass built right into it. I am a professional photographer and my camera bodies and lenses are top of the line. I easily spent 10 times as much on one camera and lens set up as I did for this bandsaw. That's what I mean by the amount of metal, machining and engineering in a product at this price point. The saw is quiet and smooth, hardly any detectable vibration. I mounted it on a mobile stand taking care to move it. I highly recommend this model over the previous versions G0555 and the G0555EX. Here's why: This one comes with cast iron wheels, a rack and pinion blade guide post, and a T shaped fence which is studier. For me, I did not think I needed the extra horsepower for the wood that I cut.. This will easily handle anything up to 6" thick with the proper blade. I might order the re-saw expansion kit at one point just in case I ever decide I need more capacity. A very inexpensive option. In conclusion: Any machinist or woodworker understands the concept that a machine tool can be "sexy". It has to do with the mass of metal and the capabilities of the tool. This saw has appeal!
PROS: quality materials and build, price point-bang for buck, set up easy following owners manual, Co planar right from factory, very minor adjustments to fine tune, support help in choosing saw was good, iron wheels at this price point, rack and pinion blade guide, super fence very accurate, quiet and smooth running, just the right size for my shop, 110 volts no need to hire electrician.
CONS: Owner's manual is online only. I had to use my iPad during assembly, a little awkward. I finally printed one out, 65 pages. Had it bound at Kinkos $5 Hey Grizzly you might consider including one. 2 man set up, but that I guess would be expected with any saw of this size. I wish I had this years ago.
I would recommend this to a friend.
