'This was a really fun project! I was talking to my gunsmith one day and he mentioned that he was frustrated with the lathe he had and that no one made a lathe specifically for gunsmithing. I asked him what kind of features he would like to see. He gave me a "laundry" list that included super high precision spindle bearings with high precision ground gears, a tailstock that was precisely tuned at the factory with a lock that could accommodate a torque wrench (the tailstock center can be torqued down to bring it to exact center with the spindle center), two coolant nozzles for chambering, a longer tailstock for precise barrel support, support screws for outboard part of the spindle, etc...To make a long story short, we have incorporated all those features to come up with the first lathe ever to be designed specifically for gunsmithing. Check it out!'

I have been a career machinist for 19 years. This is among my favorite machines. Its solid and accurate and big enough and has enough power to work on M2 barrels and even lots of other repair and maintenance work. When you order it be sure to have a pair of 3 or 4 foot long 1.25" steel bars for the lifting straps.

This machine is a delight! 04/18/2020 8:46:44 PM

Ive been running this machine and learning it for a couple of months, and overall it is very impressive. Plenty of power, massive, rigid and capable. I really appreciate the universal gearbox and have cut both Imperial and metric threads easily and successfully. The power carriage and cross feeds are very flexible and easy to use. This machine does it all!

I added a Grizzly DRO. Easy installation took about 3 hours. Very accurate and repeatable cuts are easy with this setup.

A couple of notes:

1. I had to upgrade to a 20 hp phase converter to get a consistent start at the 2 highest spindle speeds. This machine has very high starting loads and the 2 speed motor adds to the starting challenge when high speed is selected.

2. Only the left side of the compound rest has an angle index mark, which just makes it a tiny bit less flexible. Ill add one sometime, and this is really a quibble.

Overall, I am blown away by the capability of this machine! Great value for money!

Nice Lathe , Junk tool post 09/07/2018 3:28:32 PM

The lathe its self is great, however for the price charged they could include a Quick Change tool post that isn't absolute garbage

-the release lever is positioned over the dove tale it releases, so you cant install or remove the tool
-the release lever points over the work piece and towards the chuck when engaged
-the "pistons" that lock the tool holder to the post do not retract enough for the tool holder to slide on to the dove tale

I did contact customer service before leaving this review and they stated that how its supposed to be.

would say either discount the machine and don't include it or charge a bit more and include a tool post that is as nice as the rest of the machine
