This came in today, and an hour later I'm turning a 1 3/8" square 4 inches long of red heart. Only have a 1/2" skew chisel and a 1/8" parting tool, and managed to do an adequate job for a beginner. Just made a short piece of contrast wood to set off a knob for a night stand.
The lathe was fairly quiet and smooth running. I had to adjust the tail stock because it wasn't moving when the knob was turned. And there are a few minor chips in the paint, otherwise arrived in very good condition.
For a small wood lathe, this unit is very nice. Yes it is limited in what it can do, but it is large enough to turn small bowls with the 5" face plate.
If you only see the need to turn small projects, you could do worse than this at the same price point. Less than $300 with shipping is a decent value.
