My first Grizzly tool 08/17/2019 2:43:07 PM

and all I can say is wow! Quality is synonymous with every aspect of this machine from the wheels on bottom to the knobs on top. Super quiet compared to the bench top unit I owned from another manufacturer. The 0814 has the preassembled 1 piece lower cabinet and the assembly of this machine was very easy. You WILL need help getting the top plate onto the cabinet so be prepared for that. The old adage "you get what you pay for" holds true to the quality of Grizzly. After the assembly, levelling, testing of this machine last night - I vowed to never spend another dime on cheap equipment that can get you hurt. My next purchase from Grizzly will be the replacement of my benchtop planer for a floor standing planer. My new favorite color is GREEN CAST IRON. :-)

Great 06/28/2019 3:18:08 PM

Love the jointer. Only bad thing I've noticed is the leveler feet don't hold when doing big stuff. This is my fault. I should have gotten a bigger one is all

So far, so good 06/13/2019 10:48:58 AM

I have had the jointer a couple of weeks and have used it plenty. It is a solid heavy unity and I did very little adjusting before starting to use the unit. My only complaint is the infeed table height adjustment, it is very difficult to do any fine adjustment. It would be nice to have a wheel similar to the outfeed table.

Exactly what I was looking for 05/30/2019 1:55:37 PM

This is the perfect machine for the person that wants more than the hobby wood worker machine's but can't justify the cost of the pro models. With that being said I'm doing pro work with it. A little difficult to assemble but overall not bad. The longer table is well worth the cost from lesser costing units. I'm so glad I purchased this.

Great Products and Excellent Service 12/16/2018 5:56:23 PM

I bought my first Grizzly Table Saw (Model G1023) in 1988. A few months later I bought the G1182 Jointer. I never had any problems with either machine and construction quality and accuracy were never a problem. A recent move forced me to sell the machines, which I didnt want to do. I finally caved when I saw the movers cost estimate as well as the opportunity to upgrade to more modern features with newer units. After our move I purchased the new G1023RL saw and G0814 jointer to go in my new woodshop. Aside from the pricing almost doubling, Im very pleased with the quality and workmanship of these two units like I was 30 years ago. I havent been able to give the machines a thorough workout yet because my woodshop is still under construction so will reserve the performance part of this review for a later post when Ive made substantial sawdust. The focus of this review, therefore, is the service I received from Grizzly when portions of my order arrived damaged. I followed the instructions on the order for visible damage at delivery, taking pictures with my phone, and ensuring the shipping company documented the damages on their paperwork as well. The box for the table saw fence rails was nearly in two pieces when it arrived and therefore noted with pictures and description on the shippers invoice. The next day, however, when I unpacked and assembled the fence system there was not one scratch or dent and it adjusted perfectly to the saw cabinet. The big surprise was the (already assembled) jointer stand in one of the other boxes that had little to no visible damage from the exterior. The base between the feet on one side was bent as though it had been squashed by something coming down on it at an angle. It was useless because it could not sit flat on the floor. Customer Service couldnt have been nicer. I sent photos of the damage and they promptly send me a new stand in exchange for the bent one. Although it took a while and another call to Customer Service, a shipping company came and picked up the damaged unit it went back to Grizzly at their expense. Sure there are nicer quality saws and jointers on the market, but for the price and type of work I do and these machines are great. And, always consider serviceability when making purchases like this.

Nice machine. Not yet had the opportunity to use on a project, but a few of the test pieces I've run thru this jointer indicate I've made a great choice with this Jointer. Easy assembly and setup.

Perfect! Could only get better with helicalHead 11/15/2018 3:17:01 PM

I got my jointer about a month ago. The first thing you need to know
Is about shipping. Grizzly only does freight on these large machines, and if you dont have a way to unload it from an 18 wheeler you need to purchase the lift gate service. My wife was home with the kids, and the gentleman nicely unloaded my Jointer from the truck (2 large boxes) and wheeled it down the paved driveway and rolled it into the garage. All this shipping and handling racks up to about $130-$150 onto your final price, so consider that when purchasing. It still came in under the competitors, and I couldnt be happier.

The assembly was pretty straight forward. Follow the instructions and you shouldnt have any issues. The only tough part is tensioning the belt which requires you to unbolt the 4 hard to reach bolts on the motor, but it all worked out in the end. After assembly I Checked for flatness and to see if the tables were parralell to one another, and I was pleasantly surprised, and happy that I woulnt need to shim anything... (I hear coke cans are good cheap shins by the way.

Operation: since the two tables are dead flat, I was very happy with the performance. Ive mostly only ran pine through it, but its flattened it like it was nothing. Ive taken up to 1/8 of an inch at a time and it chews through the wood without issue. Im working on a workbench and i had to run 8ft long 6x4 laminated pieces through it. It handled it with grace, although the tables are a little short for something that large. I had an issue with the machine wanting to tip when I got near the end due to my hand pressure, and the cantilever of the wood pieces. If your just doing 1 inch or 2 inch material, you will be fine, but 4 inches gets pretty heavy at those lengths, especially at the full 6 inch width.

The main reason for the tipping was due to the mobile base design. The base has a total of 3 wheels and 2 adjustable feet. One of the 3 wheels has a lift mechanism that allow you to clear the adjustable feet and move it around. When its disengaged the two feet support the machine along with the other 2 wheels. The two wheels are in the outfeed side, so when you feed a piece through the directional force and downward force transfers to the two wheels and away from the two feet as you feed the piece through the cutter head. When you get to a certain point and enough force it teeters and wants to roll... my fix was to take two short cut 2x4s in each corner, so when the weight transfers it transfers to the 2x4s and acts as chucks for the wheels. This worked perfectly. The 2x4s fit snuggly and prevented any rolling or teetering. Like I said, this was due to me using the machine for a piece that probably is too large for the jointer. I just found a solution that helps me do it safely.

Couple other notes: this thing comes covered in waxy rust preventative. You will need a minimum of an hour or two to remove it from everything including the blades (forcing you to reset them and align them), gibs, and the cutter head itself. The tables and the fence will also have it. If you use mineral spirits it will come off with a little work. After cleaning it get some furniture paste wax and coat the top and fence. I also coated the blades seeing as they had the rust preventative as well. Im not sure how practical that was though.

Ive used the machine with and without dust collection, and I can say that you need it. A shop vac wont do the job (i have 2 1/4 hose), it will clog and just cant remove enough chips. Using it without the dust collector and collection hood is a better alternative. You just have to pay attention and make sure it doesnt clog up the shoot. The best solution is to get a proper 4 inch dust collector. I have a 1200cfm collector now and the jointer stays clean. At the end of an intense jointing session I just disconnect the hose and quickly suck up the little pieces that flung up at the end of each board.

This is by far the best tool I have in the shop, it makes working with all my other tools much easier. If I had the money I would
Have gone with an 8 inch spiral helical head, but i can always upgrade that later. Thenhelical head will just help with squirly grain that likes to tear out. It handles pretty well, just making it a little fuzzy, luckily it doesnt rip out big chunks, but a helical head would help with that.

Not a Happy Camper! 08/13/2018 12:55:53 AM

I had waited for weeks the for the original order since the stand was not available. After calling Grizzly and being told it would be at least 6 more weeks for the back ordered stand and that some people had to wait 9 - 12 months for their back order, I cancelled the original order. I placed a new order with the same model jointer only with a cabinet stand that was available to ship. I had to pay approximately $100.00 more in order to have the same jointer only with a different stand that was available to ship. I received the jointer a few days later and received a stand for a 14" band saw, not for the jointer. Even more delays. After a few days the shipping company picked up the band saw stand. A few days later I received the correct stand. It looked like the shipping carton had fell off the truck several times and had fork lift holes in the sides. I was not here when the stand was delivered or I would have rejected it. In addition to having to pay $100.00 more for the same jointer only with a different stand, I didn't even receive the military discount that I had on the original order. None of this would have been a big deal except for the fact that almost one year ago Hurricane Harvey flooded my home with 5' of water in the house for over a week and 8' of water in my work shop for the same time..I lost everything I owned including my home, all contents, heirloom furniture that I had built, and all shop equipment. I have been living in a camper for over 11 months now in the drive way as It has been impossible where I live to hire a contractor. Next year I will be 70 years old and I have done most of the re-build myself until 3 months ago. I needed the jointer to do cabinet work and built ins. I have bought a lot of grizzly tools over the past 30 years and all were destroyed in the flood. Until now, I have had always had a good experience with Grizzly. Maybe Grizzly has grown too much. I am now considering going some where else to replace the rest of my wood shop equipment and tools Not a Happy Camper!.

So far so good 08/09/2018 6:43:32 PM

I love being in Dallas having nearly next day shipping from Grizzly, though maybe not quite as good as when I was in Seattle and could drive to the Bellingham location. My only disappointment was the G0656 8" jointer could not be lift gated requiring a forklift or loading dock to get it from the truck to my home, since I don't have either it required me to buy the smaller G0814 that could be lift gated. I have not had a chance to run a lot of wood through this jointer yet, but note the outfeed table is not coplanar to the infeed table. I just purchased some shims and now that the Dallas heat has subsided I think I will be able to spend some time in my shop to shim it and see if I can get some good straight boards.

I had some fence problems with mine but Grizzly's Reps got the parts right out. I was not impressed with the wheels because I could never get them level, so I built my own portable wheel base. Even with the problems I had, this is the BEST jointer I have ever had.

This product is very true. Did not have to make any adjustments. Smooth operation, very little vibration, a little noise from the back cover, but rubber door stops took care of that.
all in all this is one of the best jointers make. I you are looking for a well built and dependable jointer, for the money. Get the Grizzly G0814. It is well worth it.

I'm happy about the new planner for what it is my only problem is that the planner I wanted was not available and I had to settle
for this one. I had the one I wanted on order for over one and a half months and I was told it would be a least another
month at the best.

I am very happy with my new jointed now.
I did need to put a segmented belt on to dampen the vibration from supplied v belt.
That would be a great selling point ( in my opinion) on all your belt driven models with minimal adjustment in cost.
I do have 3 other pieces of Grizzly equipment and they work flawless.

Thanks

Brian

Fantastic Machine 05/12/2018 11:33:15 AM

This is a great machine! Perfectly joints edges and faces. I waited years to get one, trying to use a variety of jigs on my table saw and a hand plane. I have a small shop, so the ability to move this about on its built-in wheels is great. And the bed length is just right for my space. I converted to 220v, which is trivial to do. Ive face jointed some figured maple and had no problems. Im quite pleased with this machine.

First New Jointer 04/14/2018 12:42:00 PM

So far Ive been really happy with this Jointer. I feel that Im still learning the fine points yet, however this has made my projects so much easier and better. I gave 4 stars as I did get a little tear-our when facing several peices of hard maple. Honestly, Im not suprised as this joint uses blades. There are no spiral cutter-heads avaiable for this Jointer at the time of this review.

I chose Grizzly as I purchased a table saw last year that I absolutly love. So far not dissapointed.

Still OPen. 04/08/2018 4:48:11 PM

Not yet able to assemble due to some health issues, but I am going to guess that I will be happy with it once I do. Currently have a similar model purchased about 20 years ago. Showing its age, but still working.

Very well built machine! 04/08/2018 11:45:17 AM

You will not find a better jointer in this price range. Assembly was fairly easy and setup was even easier. Dust collection was surprisingly efficient. My only complaint was the 3 month backorder.

Good Quality 04/08/2018 10:11:53 AM

We ordered the jointer in December but it was on backorder so we just received it in late March. Setting up was easy an only a few adjustments were needed. I recommend this to anyone who needs a small portable jointer.

Oh I Love it 09/14/2017 1:07:11 PM

I bought this jointer a month ago and it performs flawlessly so far. Had 2 small issues during assembly, but those did not effect the machine or performance. You can see what those are on my YouTube channel Search G0814 unboxing or use this link www.youtube.com/dwoodmaker

Super Machine 06/18/2017 10:51:24 AM

Purchased one month ago. Delivered promptly. Easy setup. Needed minor adjustment, and holds adjustment. Plenty of power. Blades have remained sharp. My only "carp" is that the Depth of Cut scale is partially blocked by the Tension Knob. For the cost, you cannot go wrong. Another great Grizzly machine - I know, I now have three.

My purchase of the G0814 6" jointer with cabinet stand has proven to be a good decision so far as my limited use of it as of this date. The pricing was reasonable and the delivery service was excellent with the exception of product delivery delay from manufacture to the Grizzly warehouse in the states. Jointer is very portable, compact and easy to maneuver; product manual is well written.
