Overview

G0733 18" x 47" Heavy-Duty Wood Lathe

A large capacity wood lathe with VFD.

The G0733 18" x 47" Heavy-Duty Wood Lathe has it all, beginning with the 18" swing over bed capacity. You'll appreciate the variable-speed spindle control with digital readout, forward/reverse switch and convenient tool storage basket.

The belt drive offers a low speed range of 100–1200 RPM and a high-speed range of 330–3200 RPM. The headstock can be rotated 180° and positioned anywhere along the bed. The tailstock, headstock and tool rest support all have lever action cam locks for quick positioning.

Perhaps best of all, the G0733 is equipped with a VFD (variable frequency drive), which allows the lathe's 2 HP, 3-phase motor to run on single-phase power. All you need is standard 220V, single-phase power to be up and running in no time. You'll be amazed by all the quality and innovative features this woodworking lathe has to offer!

Like all Grizzly wood lathes, the G0733 comes with a 1-year warranty which covers parts and assures the unit is free from factory defects. (Consumables are not covered by the warranty.)

The G0733 manual was written by our U.S. based Technical Documentation Department and is packed with useful information. The complete and easy to read manual makes it easier to assemble and maintain your lathe.

The Grizzly Customer Service and Technical Support Teams are U.S. based. Parts and accessories for the lathe are available on-line and shipped from the Grizzly parts warehouse in Springfield, MO.

HD Lathe 10/03/2019 12:18:31 PM

My old lathe did not have the EVS or reverse, so it took a little bit to get used to this beast! And, it's a great beast! Love it. Quiet, strong. Glad I bought it and will be for years.

New 06/30/2019 3:17:29 AM

Just purchased G0733 Wood Lathe, T27313 Copy attachment, D2304 Chisel set and T27337 Optional bracket; brought the items home and in the process of assembly. Thought of ordering on-line but, discovered it was less expensive and better-benefit to drive to Springfield and pick up the items myself. I've been planning for the G0733 for some time now and since the price dropped below 2017 price I knew; now is the time. Planning for the wife, daughter and a few of the grand-kids to get some use out of it; as well as myself. A nice addition to my Home Wood and Home Metal shops.
I give this G0733 Wood Lathe and accessories 4-stars only because I haven't gotten it completely set up and functioning yet.

Packaged well and everyone at Grizzly processed my items through very promptly and courteously. After my new G0733 Wood Lathe is making chips I will update my thoughts and experience with it. I will be making additional trips to Grizzly for more items.

In general, I love it. Complaint: I ordered 240 volt twist lock female receptival from your catalog and 240 volt twist lock male plug so I would be ready to turn. Yesterday I got an email from Grizzly people also bought these items, one being the 3 prong twist lock plug. First of all, the owners manual says do NOT change the plug already attached to the machine for any reason. This will void the warenty. I went to a local Industrial Electrical Supply, showed them the manual and bought the female receptical that matched the plug on the lathe. Lathe is up and running. The twist lock plug and receptical are sitting on a shelf where they will collect dust. Your catalog should offer the receptical that matches the lathe.

The Best of the Best 05/24/2019 11:39:04 AM

I've been wanting a great wood lathe for years with all the features of a great lathe, high quality and a reasonable price. Grizzly fits the bill every time. Every bit as good if not better than powermatic or jet but a a reasonable price-I don't give up my hard earned money just for a name. Well done Grizzly!

Love it 07/24/2018 9:25:37 PM

I have had this lathe for a month now and am very pleased with it. Very quiet and extremely sturdy. I have had a couple of off balance 16" X 5" blanks on here and the roughing process was smooth with no vibration at about 300 RPM.

This is the best lathe I had ever had. I would definitely recommend this to anyone

Some shipping damage 06/19/2018 3:21:26 PM

The tail stock had detached itself from the rails and left some slight damage which was not discovered until after assembly causing some damage to the rails. The damage was not severe enough for me to disassemble and return the rails. The lathe operates well.

One Exception 01/05/2018 9:16:57 PM

I purchased this lathe for father's day and so far I am very happy with the power and ease of use. I like the improvements that were made from the previous model years. The only problem I am having is purchasing tool rests. Grizzly does not make the range of tool rests that are required for safely turning bowls and vases and some of the other projects I love to turn. What makes this problematic is that the tool rest base is bored to 25 mm when all or most of the commercially available uprights are 1inch (just big enough to not fit). Grizzly either needs to provide a tool rest base that is bored to accept a 1 inch post or make a variety of tool rests that will help their customers use the base that comes with their lathe.

Excellent Lathe. 12/07/2017 5:00:57 PM

I've wanted a nice lathe for several years now, and bought this one as a Christmas present for myself. I did a LOT of research before making my purchase, and and am absolutely thrilled with this lathe. It is everything I was hoping for. The 3-phase motor was the deal clincher. The motor retains full torque even at low speeds, and the variable speed is so smooth! With plenty of capacity to handle most any job I can think of, this a great combination of features, precision, and power. I would highly recommend this lathe to anyone looking for a great multi-use lathe at a fair price.

Last one I'll ever purchase 07/22/2017 4:50:10 PM

I bought the G0733 Lathe because I wanted an extended bed with a quality ground surface for moving the tail stock. Up front I knew I'd at least be getting that. I've been pleasantly surprised by how smoothly the motor runs through the range of speeds in both directions. The heavy base allows me to turn large diameter stock without uncomfortable vibrations. I turn some small pieces and mostly large table legs. This machine is a big win for Grizzly. That said, I do have a small critique. The tool rest comes painted, and therefore not a smooth surface for the tools to ride across. I grabbed a sanding disc on my 4" grinder and removed all the paint, leaving a smooth, ground surface. Thus far the solution has been a good one. In the en, though, I'll likely purchase a new tool rest.

If I had it to do over again I would certainly purchase this lathe!

Good lathe for the money 06/16/2017 2:48:31 PM

Lathe works great. Seems to have plenty of power. A few things I would like to see; it comes with one tool rest which is okay for long turning jobs but too big for smaller jobs, and the tool rest is not made to the same standard as the rest of the lathe. The top was painted and very hard to slide a tool across so I sanded off the paint and found a very rough pitted surface under it. I contacted customer service and they replaced it however the replacement was just as bad. I'm doing repairs to it myself.
I'm not sure what the basket is for and I would much rather have another (smaller) tool rest than it.
Another little problem is that you have to take a screwdriver to remove the cover to change speeds, I think a knob or latch would be much better.
If you buy this lathe I don't think you will be disappointed, I gave it four stars due to the above mentioned items.

Love the lathe 05/13/2017 5:20:04 PM

I bought this lathe about a month ago and drove up to the Missouri store to pick it up and got it uncrated and in the garage before a huge rainstorm. The warehouse staff had no problem loading it into a pickup, silly but I was concerned. This is not my first wood lathe, it is a replacement for one from another manufacturer that I just wore out. I am extremely pleased with the lathe, it has plenty of power, runs extremely smoothly in both directions and I just love the range of speed and the ease of control. This was a great purchase and I would do it again if I had to but I don't think I'll be wearing this beast out any time soon.

Great Value 02/06/2017 8:10:39 PM

Stepped up to this machine from a small Pen turning lath. I have been utilizing this machine for a couple of months now, and I truly love the machine. The price is really great for the quality of machine that you are getting. Two suggestions, that would make the experience a 5 star and even better. Change the diameter of the tool rest shaft to a full 1", vs. the metric 25mm. Accessory tool rest are really, really hard to find, and almost nonexistent. And yes, as a previous writer mentioned, it really does need a headstock hand wheel? If not for this hiccup I would have certainly rated this machine a 5 star.

Lacking in one important area 01/26/2017 11:46:28 AM

I have no complaints with the power of the lathe and its overall operation. However I can't believe it was designed without an easy way to manually turn the headstock spindle. Which is a must for easy sanding and/or checking the progress of a project.... You either have to grab the chuck or other workpiece mounting hardware which I found out is not safe, (after the threads of the spindel cut my hand pretty bad.... and left a metal spur in it to be dug out...) or grab and turn the actual work piece. Both of which are not convenient. A lathe this powerfull with so many options could have really hit a homerun with this simple little addition. Making things even worse, when I called it's not even an option you can buy....

Very fine machine 02/15/2016 8:02:10 PM

I got this machine about a month ago, been doing some turning on it and it is about the nicest lathe I have ever ran. It replaced a 12x36 pre 70's Rockwell Delta, it too was a fine lathe but I wanted more capacity, and this machine delivers it, it took a little getting used to the amount of power the unit has, the old one had a 1/2 or 3/4 HP motor, so if you gouged a little too much it would stop the spindle, but it doesn't even slow it down on this unit

Definitely would recommend this machine if you are looking for a quality machine
