Works better than ever imagined, Very well designed and built 05/13/2020 7:02:55 PM

This is a huge improvement over the 30 year old 2 HP single stage Grizzly I had. I bought it because I wanted something easier to empty. Emptying the old cloth bags was messy and time consuming.

One Negative is the cord is a bit short for a portable Dust collector. I would strongly suggest adding 10' to the power cord and adding a "hook" on the stand to store the cord when not in use. A $50 option for a 25' cord on a spring powered storage reel would be perfect.

I am impressed with the quality of construction. It was relatively easy. Lifting the fan enclosure and motor assembly in place was definitely a two person job. It is big and heavy but easily manageable with a helper.

I am also a bit of a perfectionist............
I would also suggest the bolts that hold the cyclone to the fan be 1/2" instead of 3/4" and the bolts that hold the top of the cyclone to the bottom also be 1/2" instead of 3/4" . The finished machine would also look a bit stronger and more finished if there were twice as many bolts holding the two parts of the cyclone together. This is not necessary as I have no leaks but it is strictly an appearance thing. The joint would appear to be more uniform.

To Summarize an already too long review.
    * I am pleased
    ** I would buy again
*** I have recommended The G0862 3 HP Dust collector to friends
**** I will continue to recommend this dust collector and Grizzly to anyone who will listen.

So far this has been excellent. It was not the easiest thing to put together, but It is up and running for me. Now to put a permanent pipe system in place.

After looking for a more powerful system for two months I bought this with a little skepticism.I got their benchtop planer and while it performs well I do not like that it has so many plastic parts feels a little cheesy. But it works great and time will tell on the quality of the build. The only complaint I have on this unit is the caster wheels. Work fine but once again a little cheesy. The rest of the unit is rock solid. I have ran this for a month straight on a cabinet saw and said planer and a 8 inch jointer. I was not sure it was functioning properly. After 400 bf of maple and walnut jointed, planed and sawn their was hardly any dust in the filter bag. Drum had a good amount but not even 4 oz in the bag? I tested it with a couple of blue smoke bombs to see the circulation. Damn if this is not the finest dust collector/ separator I have ever seen. I am sure there are some as good and some better but I am very happy with this unit. Pro tip mount the motor to the top while lying on its side on the packing crate. Than two men lift whole unit upright. Other than a spare pair of hands for two minutes I put it together myself in about three hours.

Great purchase, great upgrade 11/17/2019 2:08:22 AM

I upgraded from the 2hp canister dc and i can say that i saw significant cfm increases. I think the biggest benefit is not having to clean the filter every hour to maintain your CFMs. Im going to be honest I thought the cyclones were a gimmick but I can definitely tell the difference the filter does not get clogged up so it maintains higher CFMs longer with less maintenance and less cleaning the filter

Pretty damn strong 09/11/2019 3:33:19 AM

    I think it's great.
I don't know why it trips a 20amp circuit when it's only a 15amp motor. Changed to a new breaker, trips it. 25' wire run to panel and a 12gauge wire.
I used a 8" sheet metal duct 30' manifold through the center of my shop. At the first test with 3 blast gates open it sucked the whole manifold flat like a toothpaste tube. So make sure you go buy the proper spiral duct so you can avoid my little drama.
The barrel design is great. Emptying is so easy. The remote is very handy. I assembled it in 3 hours by myself.

great addition to shop 05/19/2019 10:46:16 AM

had it up and work for two weeks and its working great. easy to empty and has no trouble with dust removal when more than one blast gate open.

Very effective but some production flaws 02/19/2019 1:58:17 PM

The lid clasp holes were not predrilled and without any guidance from Grizzly tech support (who does not respond to emails) attaching them in a way that will make the work is a guess at best. The clearance from the barrel to the lid is tiny and it is difficult to get the proper alignment so that you get a tight seal. The cyclone has a tremendous amount of power and is very effective in removing dust. I use a hood next to my sanding bench to take the dust that comes up from the wood that the sander does not pick up and you can see the stream of dust from 12 inches away streaming to the collection hood-quite impressive.

Good! With things to watch out for 02/03/2019 5:05:29 PM

I ordered several large machines from grizzly and this one was the only delivery that arrived with damage. Though this is mostly UPSs fault it was obvious that the most damaged package was under packed or under protected by grizzly. I will say that grizzly acted swiftly to send repair parts, which I appreciated! This is a new model, there are some issues with not enough information and lack of clarity in the manual which left me guessing. A higher quality print would have helped. Viewing the pdf online solved a few clarity issues. The assembly hardware did not coordinate with the instructions, although in the end I got it together. This will require two strong people to lift the motor housing. NOT a one man job! The biggest problem is at the collection bin which did not come pre drilled for the clasps that fix it to the lifting lid. I had to attach them myself which yielded an imperfect connection. The bin is also warped out of shape which causes the clasping step to be very difficult and compromises the vacuum seal. The bin also does not align centered under the lid, making it frustrating to clasp and lift in a quick way. Lots of maneuvering necessary to get the bit aligned, clasped, and lifted with a good seal.

A quick note that this machine tripped my 20amp breaker every time at start up. My solution was to run a designated 30amp which has solved the problem so far.

I will say that this is a very powerful collector. Ive started to run my ducting and I can tell it will work very well. Ive run 8 metal duct right out of the machine, stepping down to 4 & a blast gate at each machine. Its loud! But thats normal... some ear protection solves that problem. Overall Im happy with this purchase and if the bin issue continues Ill be giving grizzly a call to see how to remedy the problem. Overall Grizzly has maintained great costumer service through a complicataed (by me) ordering process. Hope this review helps! Only lost a star for unclear assembly, and some operational issues upfront.

My dust collector is an outstanding addition to my shop. I experienced install issues due to breaker and incoming line size from my breaker panel. These issues were corrected and the dust colector is functioning magnificently! Your service technicians were tremendously helpful and professional.
    Will purchase additional items!

Dust collector excellence. 02/02/2019 2:00:26 PM

Well I ordered the dust collector and it came earlier then what was said delivery was going to be. Major plus! It's easy to set up and was made with good quality stuff , but you will definitely need a friend to help lift stuff, which is not a problem, because it'll go really fast. Definitely love Grizzly!

Get the dust out 02/02/2019 12:01:54 PM

I purchased the 3HP cycle collector and have been very pleased with the performance. The instructions were straight forward and easy to understand and assembly did not take too long. If I were to have a complaint it would be the drum is a little difficult to line up straight under the cyclone and you need to fiddle with it to line up correctly. It is a far cry easier to handle than my old bag collector. The CFM and draw power is impressive and takes anything I throw at it. My planer does not clog any more! The noise is a little loud (it is a 3HP machine) but I need to wear ear protection in the shop regardless. This can be overcome by placement in another room. All in all I got good value and would buy this unit again and would recommend it to anyone.

This dust collector is just what I needed for my 1200 sqft shop. I will be piping my shop and this will be centrally located. It solves my dust problem.

Home Run Grizzly 01/20/2019 6:13:25 PM

Great Product. Only reason why I did not give it 5 stars was because drum latches needed hole drilling. Hardware supplied was enough to assemble but count on 1/2 in bolts was off. Other than that it went together fast. It is crazy powerful. Separation is great for a unit this short. Unit is quiet for its HP. Main operation of unit was packaged great. Legs could use better packaging. Great customer service. Through a assembly video up o youtube because unit is so new there was not much info available. Another home run from Grizzly....
